Crafting in Fantasy Life i is only possible by unlocking Crafting Lives, as each recipe requires a specific Crafting Life before they can be used.
Head to the Guild Office and change into the Crafting Life that you have yet to unlock to access their skill set!

Like in most games with a crafting mechanic, you will also need an item's recipe and the materials listed on it before you can start crafting in Fantasy Life i.
Recipes are mostly obtained through Quests, especially those under the Life Challenges category, and some can only be unlocked by finding hidden Leafe.
The materials to be used in crafting can be found in the wilds and gathered by changing into the corresponding Gathering Life. You can also check the stores in settlements for the crafting materials you need and purchase them with Dosh!

If you have the recipe but are still missing certain materials on the list, you can open the item's Material Info screen to see how to get each of the required materials and how many more you need to craft the item!

Crafting can only be done in Workbenches that you usually find near Life Masters in the village. You can interact with any Workbench and still access all the recipes that you have. You don't need to go to an Alchemist Workbench to craft a potion as you can do it on a Carpenter Workbench.

The Recipes screen that appears when you interact with a Workbench lists all your unlocked recipes. The list is divided into categories, making it easier to find the item that you want to craft.
There is also a category for Quest Items, where you can see all the items that you need to craft to complete active Life Challenge objectives.

You can also choose a Signature that you want to add to the items that you craft. Though this won't have any bonus effects on the item, your Signature will help distinguish between items you received and items that you made yourself! You can change your Signature anytime by interacting with a Workbench.

The goal of the Crafting minigame is simple: Complete the sequence of actions shown at the top of the screen and fill the Completion Bar within the specified number of moves.
The quality of the item will be based on how fast you filled the Completion Bar—the less moves it took to finish the item, the better the quality.
On the other hand, running out of moves will fail the crafting process and you will lose the crafting materials used. Make sure to at least meet the recommended Crafting Skill to improve your chances of completing the item!
Tap |
Mash |
Hold |
Spin |
There are four different actions with corresponding icon shapes that can appear on the sequences: tap, mash, hold, and spin. You must complete each sequence by doing the correct action on the correct station as fast as you can until you fill the Completion Bar or you run out of moves.
Incorrect inputs will disable any action for a short while, which delays the sequence and possibly lowers the highest possible rating that you can get!

The rate of which the Completion Bar is filled for every sequence that you complete depends on the Recommended Crafting Skill of the item.
Having a much lower value of the corresponding Crafting Skill than what is recommended will make it more difficult to fill the Completion Bar even if you get an Excellent rating on all sequences.
Increase your Crafting Skill by equipping a better Tool or leveling up and unlocking panels on the Skill Board!
