How to Fight the Umbra

How to Fight

You can only encounter combat with an Umbra during the Side Quest: Equine Phantoms. When fighting the Umbra, you will fight it in the form of multiple Panthers and possibly in a form of a Human Knight wielding a two handed weapon.

The best way to deal with this is to put multiple Yrden Sign traps to slow the Panthers and allow you to finish them off one by one. When fighting the Knight you can employ the same tactics as fighting a normal human with two-handed weapons. Try to stagger them and attack them from behind while evading their counterattacks.

What Preparations to Make?

You should use your Silver Sword and coat it with Specter oil to deal bonus damage to them. You should prepare bombs that can deal damage to multiple enemies at once like the Grapeshot Bomb for the fight with the Panthers.

Special Sign Effects

  • Aard - This can stagger the enemy momentarily giving you an opening to attack them.
  • Yrden - This can significantly slow down the enemies allowing you to evade and attack them with ease.
  • Axii - This can stun them momentarily and give you a big opening to attack them.
