The Skill Tree is where you can unlock one primary skill and upgrade all other skills for your units to use on the battlefield in The DioField Chronicle. Read on to learn how to unlock the Skill Tree, how to learn and upgrade Skills, and how to earn Skill Points (SP).
List of Contents
The Skill Tree in DioField Chronicle is unlocked during the quest “The Noble's Arrival,” in the early parts of Chapter 1. Your first objective would be to talk to Izelair, who is located somewhere in the hub area.
When the game asks you to open the Skill Tree Menu, talk to the man behind the desk. This will open the Institute menu, where you will be able to upgrade your skill tree.

Each unit type (class) has only one new active skill they can learn in their respective skill trees. This base skill will be usable for all units of a specific unit type once unlocked. Unlocking this base skill also grants access to skill upgrades further up the skill tree.
SP (Skill Points) can be spent to unlock Skills and Skill Upgrades for each class. However, some upgrades require that you have a higher ranked Skill Tree before they can be purchased.
Further up the skill tree, you will find only upgrades for skills that you temporarily possess due to your equipped weapon. These are not skill-unlocks, but rather, skill upgrades. Having a skill is still entirely dependent on the weapon you possess.
Each upgrade adds buffs or benefits that improve the power and efficacy of the skill. SP, or Skill Points, can be spent to upgrade these skills for each class. Some skills require that you reach a certain Skill Tree Rank before they are able to be learned.
Completing Missions rewards you with SP. Aim to complete the side objectives in every battle as well, for they will sometimes reward you with extra SP. You will be able to garner a good amount of SP by playing through the main storyline.
To respec or reset your SP, head to the skill tree menu, and choose Reset SP, indicated with a button at the bottom of the screen.
Be careful which upgrades you choose to level up, as resetting or respeccing SP costs 10,000G.
Equipping different weapons will grant you access to new Skills, which can be upgraded in the Skill Tree. These skills are specific to your character and class, making them upgradeable via the Skill Tree.
You can purchase weapons from Shop using the money you've earned or research them at Weapon Development.
List of All Weapons
Upgrading a skill on the skill tree does not mean that any character from that unit will be able to use it. Some skills can only be used by a unique character equipped with a specific weapon.
For example, although Andrias is a Soldier, he can only equip Daggers, and only Dagger-wielders can use the Asssassination skill. You will need to have both the associated character and their unique weapon that grants them the skill before you can use it in battle.
Open the commands list in battle with Triangle or Spacebar. Here, you can order a unit to use a use an Item in your inventory, or use a Skill, which can both aid you in battle.
Combat Guide: Battle Mechanics Explained
There are four main classes with separate skill trees:
Cavalier | Soldier | Magicker | Sharpshooter |
---|---|---|---|
The Skill Tree unlocks skills that each class can use in battle. Skills are critical for winning battles, especially against tougher opponents, so make sure to invest in acquiring and upgrading new skills whenever you can.
