Players can select which Magilumic Orb to equip by selecting a maximum of 2 from your Equipment. By default, you will have Bahamut unlocked and equipped in a Magilumic Orb slot.
Note: Magilumic Orbs can only be equipped during the start or while outside of missions. Once the mission begins, you will no longer be able to edit your equipped Magilumic Orbs so pay attention to your loadout beforehand.
While in combat, you can select which Magilumic Orb to use from your Commands screen. As this is under Mercenaries' Equipment, you can use any Magilumic Orb regardless of which character you select.
Unlike Weapons Skills that use EP, Magiumic Orbs require TP in order to be used. Each Magilumic Orb will require at least 1 full TP gauge to be used. You can track the amount of TP you currently have with the TP gauge at the lower right corner of your screen.
Note: Some Magilumic Orbs like the Goldhorne will require you to spend 2 TP in order to use. Pay attention to the amount needed especially when you are banking on the orb's effects to win the battle.
TP can mainly be found on the battlefield as blue Jade Fragments dropped by killing enemies in combat. Killing enemies doesn't automatically give you TP, you will have to walk over the blue Jade Fragments from slain enemies for it to be credited to your TP gauge.
In addition to receiving TP from killing enemies, there will be instances where TP can be found on the battlefield. Simply make any of your characters walk over them to fill up a portion of your TP gauge.
The ability to upgrade Magilumic Orbs will be unlocked during the very first Mission of Chapter 2 called Harbinger of Discord. Once compeleted, you should be able to view and upgrade the orbs via the Magilumic Orb Research Tree.
Upon starting Chapter 2, follow the quest objectives: First, talk to Iscarion, then talk to the Researcher standing in front of the Institute. Magilumic Orb Research will then be unlocked.
Harbinger of Discord Walkthrough
Talk to the researcher at the Institute in the home base to access the Institute menu. Select Magilumic Orb Research to see a list of Magilumic Orbs. You can only upgrade those you own.
Best Magilumic Upgrades to Unlock
A certain amount of Gold and materials like Jade Crystals are required to upgrade the Magilumic Orbs you own.
Gold can be farmed by repeating Practice Battles while Jade Crystals can be farmed by completing optional mission objectives or purchasing them from a Rank 5 Shop.
