Speak to the Soldier in the small alcove east of the first Wak-Wak Tree in the Hyrcanian Forest. He'll mention that he's a soldier from the time of King Darius but is trapped in the cursed forest.
He asks you to find one of his fellow soldiers who may have the means to escape it before he turns into a mindless brute.
The Soldier is located in an alcove that you can only access by shooting the glowing roots with the Bow of Menolias, which you can get finishing the Lost in Mount Qaf story quest and after defeating Erlik.
Once you have the bow, shoot the glowing root and head right to reach the alcove where the soldier is located.
Head east from where you spoke with the Soldier. This area has an orange leaf that you can use to cross over the gorge.
Ignore the leaf and instead slide down the gorge to reach the lower area.
Once you reach the bottom, shoot the glowing root to create platforms to reach the ruined pillars.
There is a soldier hanging on the ceiling and is one of the soldier's former compatriots. Free the soldier by either shooting the rope with your bow or simply slashing the rope with your swords.
Drop down to where the corpse fell and interact with the corpse with receive a Cannonball.
Make your way back to the Soldier and give him the cannonball. He'll use it to blast the entrance of the alcove, freeing him and no longer requiring you to slide to the area to access it.
You'll also receive a Soma Tree Petal as a reward!
If you return to the lower area where you found the dead soldier, you'll find the quest giver there. Interact with him to learn some back story regarding Darius' forces and what happened once they entered Mount Qaf.
There are no other rewards to returning to this spot and the soldier will remain there for the rest of the game.
