He’s stuck in the Hyrcanian Forest in a cave. Bring him back a Cannonball for this weapon

The Deserter Walkthrough Guide

  1. Speak to the Soldier in Hycranian Forest
  2. Slide Down the Lower Area
  3. Shoot the Glowing Root
  4. Free the Soldier's Corpse
  5. Interact with the Corpse
  6. Return to the Soldier
  7. Optional: Return to the Soldier's Corpse

Speak to the Soldier in Hycranian Forest

Speak to the Soldier in the small alcove east of the first Wak-Wak Tree in the Hyrcanian Forest. He'll mention that he's a soldier from the time of King Darius but is trapped in the cursed forest.

He asks you to find one of his fellow soldiers who may have the means to escape it before he turns into a mindless brute.

Requires the Bow of Menolias

The Soldier is located in an alcove that you can only access by shooting the glowing roots with the Bow of Menolias, which you can get finishing the Lost in Mount Qaf story quest and after defeating Erlik.

Once you have the bow, shoot the glowing root and head right to reach the alcove where the soldier is located.

Lost in Mount Qaf Walkthrough

Slide Down the Lower Area

Head east from where you spoke with the Soldier. This area has an orange leaf that you can use to cross over the gorge.

Ignore the leaf and instead slide down the gorge to reach the lower area.

Shoot the Glowing Root

Once you reach the bottom, shoot the glowing root to create platforms to reach the ruined pillars.

Free the Soldier's Corpse

There is a soldier hanging on the ceiling and is one of the soldier's former compatriots. Free the soldier by either shooting the rope with your bow or simply slashing the rope with your swords.

Interact with the Corpse

Drop down to where the corpse fell and interact with the corpse with receive a Cannonball.

Return to the Soldier

The Deserter Reward.png

Make your way back to the Soldier and give him the cannonball. He'll use it to blast the entrance of the alcove, freeing him and no longer requiring you to slide to the area to access it.

You'll also receive a Soma Tree Petal as a reward!

Optional: Return to the Soldier's Corpse

If you return to the lower area where you found the dead soldier, you'll find the quest giver there. Interact with him to learn some back story regarding Darius' forces and what happened once they entered Mount Qaf.

There are no other rewards to returning to this spot and the soldier will remain there for the rest of the game.
