Block, Parry, and Deflect Attacks
The shield is primarily used to block attacks. It has a gauge found at the bottom left of the screen that indicates how much damage it can take before becoming unusable for a while until it fully recharges.
The shield can be used to parry Hell Surge attacks, and deflect Hell Surge projectiles, both dealing damage to the attacker. Successful parries offer benefits to certain weapon upgrades and shield runes, so it's a great choice to practice parrying attacks, since it makes combat more efficient and fun!
Execute Shield Charges to Cover Ground Quickly
Shield Charges will allow you to dash toward your target, dealing damage to it and to the enemies nearby. This helps you traverse areas quickly and deal with the enemies faster.
Shield Charges are also used to destroy specific blockades that might be hiding secrets areas behind them. So keep an eye out for chargeable walls to unlock Secrets and achieve 100% chapter completion!
Throw your Shield Often
Throwing your shield deals damage to enemies on impact. It can also embed itself into an enemy, stunning them and improves the abilities of certain weapon upgrades, as they synergize with an embedded shield saw.
Shield Runes Offer More Damage
Shield Runes are powerful abilities that enhance your damage output depending on the equipped shield rune. They are activated after a successful Hell Surge parry, making parrying an essential skill if you want to maximize your damage output.
