The Wind Waker is used to conduct songs which have a variety of effects. A meter will show up on the top of the screen as Link plays a song.
You can use your controller's control sticks to perform songs. The left stick is used to determine the time signature of your conduction while the right stick or C-Stick for the Gamecube controller is used play notes.

Link will learn various songs as you go through the game, with each one having different effects. Do note that Link cannot perform a song if he has not learned it yet, even if you know the button combinations for it.

Link will receive the Wind Waker baton from the King of Red Lions once they reach Dragon Roost Island.
