The GameCube controller and Wii U GamePad are the best controllers for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Read on to learn the best controllers to use when playing the original and HD remake versions of the game!
List of Contents

The GameCube controller itself is the best controller to use when playing the original version of Wind Waker, either when you're using the original console or playing on the Nintendo Switch 2 via the Nintendo GameCube Classics app available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
For Switch 2 players, it is useful to play with a GameCube controller instead of the Joy-Cons or Switch Pro Controller as the game was made with GameCube controls in mind.
You can use either the GameCube controller that is available from the MyNintendo Store, which has a ZL bumper button, or use an original GameCube controller along with the controller adapter, which were made for Super Smash Bros. Smash 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
All Controls for Every Version

If you are playing the HD remake on the Wii U, the Wii U GamePad is the best controller to use, as it has gyro controls and uses the touch screen for the inventory and the map. The Wii U Pro Controller can be used, but it lacks gyro controls for the Bow and Telescope.
