Find the fairies on Outset Island and Northern Fairy Island to upgrade your wallet in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Read on to learn where to find the fairies in these locations!
List of Contents
| Wallet Upgrade Locations |
|---|
| |
| Step | Walkthrough |
|---|---|
| 1 | Head to Northern Fairy Island. |
| 2 | Head inside the shell building on the island. |
| 3 | Talk to the fairy to upgrade your wallet. |
Link can only hold 200 Rupees initially in the GameCube version or 500 Rupees in the HD version, but his wallet can be upgraded to hold more money. The first wallet upgrade you can get is on Northern Fairy Island. Once upgraded, your wallet can now hold up to 1,000 Rupees.
You can talk to any fairy in any order, but you can get this one immediately if you have not unlocked bombs yet.
| Step | Walkthrough |
|---|---|
| 1 | Head to Outset Island. You also need to already have bombs unlocked to get this upgrade. |
| 2 | Head up the mountain until you find a broken wooden bridge. |
| 3 | Climb up the wooden beams and equip your Deku Leaf. Use the wind to glide across the gap. |
| 4 | Enter the cave to go deep into the jungle. Follow the path until you see a giant boulder. |
| 5 | Use a bomb to destroy the boulder then jump into the hole. |
| 6 | Talk to the fairy to upgrade your wallet. |
You can get a second wallet upgrade from another fairy on Outset Island. This will let you hold up to 5,000 Rupees.

| Wallet Upgrade | Capacity |
|---|---|
| No Upgrade | 200 (OG) / 500 (HD) Rupees |
| First Upgrade | 1,000 Rupees |
| Second Upgrade | 5,000 Rupees |
Upgrading your wallet allows you to carry more Rupees while exploring, which can be useful when you frequently spend Rupees from shopping. This way, you don't need to be limited to 200 or 500 Rupees and farm for money again and again.
Take note that upgrading you wallet is required in the GameCube version of the game. Once you get to the Triforce Shard hunt section of the main story, you will need to pay Tingle to decipher Triforce Charts. Tingle charges 398 Rupees for each chart, which is more than the base wallet size, so it's a good idea to get the maximum wallet upgrade before doing this section of the game.
