The outside of the Ranger Outpost: Snackbar is the best starting base location in the game. Not only do you have access to most of the basic resources in the game, but the Snackbar Outpost is also the easiest to access outpost for scanning your items and getting more Raw Science and blueprints.

For moving north from Snackbar toward the Picnic Table and Pine Hill, the flat ground outside the Trash Bags Ranger Outpost is an ideal base spot. It’s safe, spacious, rich in basic materials, and lets you scan at the Ranger Station. Best of all, the outpost’s Sprinkler provides a steady supply of free water when you place Water Containers underneath.

The large rock in the center of the Ceremony region is an excellent high-ground base location, offering strong defense during raids since most enemies can’t reach it without flying.
Bees often land on the rock, making it great for farming them, and there’s a good supply of Thistle Needles nearby.
Its central position provides easy access to the map. It's also placed more towards the east, ensuring it remains useful as new areas are revealed in future updates.

On the border of the Grass Games and Fire Pit regions, a set of tree stumps connected by rope offers an excellent high-ground base spot. The central stump is extremely tall, making it hard for bugs to reach during raids. The surrounding area is relatively safe and rich in both common and rare resources. For an easy-to-build and towering base, the tree stump is a great choice.

The spot east of the crashed Ice Cream Cart is fairly safe, with Ladybugs in the area who won't attack unless provoked. While the nearby ice zone is off-limits without freeze-resistant gear, establishing a base here early gives you easy access to a great blueberry farm, a source of materials that are rare outside the region.

Setting up a base takes a lot of time, so you have to decide the main purpose of the base. A decent base will have access to certain materials that may otherwise be difficult to gather compared to your other base locations.
One base may be able to gather grass materials while the other base may be focused on food or minerals, but each base should have a major advantage and not just a random location on the map.

Along with the advantages, you should also consider the risk level of a base location. Before committing, spend some time or place minimal materials there to see which bugs roam the area. Waking up to an attack is never fun, so prioritize safety when choosing a spot. If your base is too close to hostile creatures or poisonous areas, you could be taking damage the moment you step outside.

Choose a structure, such as a tree stump or a high rock, as the foundation of your base to build upon. Aside from the risk of falling to your death, high-ground bases offer excellent safety by keeping out ground bugs during raids and can allow you to funnel them to a narrow direction. Only flying creatures can reach you, and they can be gunned down much more easily.
