Multiplayer Features

Grounded 2 Multiplayer Features

Maximum of Four Players in Co-op

Grounded 2 supports online multiplayer for up to 4 players just like the first game. The game is balanced around a 4-player co-op experience and extra players will not be able to join.

Player Limit Guide: How Many Players?

Crossplay Supported for All Platforms

The game supports crossplay between both the Xbox and PC versions of the game so you can play together with others on a different platform.

For the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch versions, we can speculate that crossplay will also become available to them if those versions come out at a later time, just like with the first Grounded game.

Is Grounded 2 Crossplay?

Choose Between Standard or Shared Worlds

When you first create a server to play in, you'll be asked to choose between a Standard World or a Shared World. The basic differences are as follows:

Standard World The host owns the server and its save file. This means that your friends will not be able to play and progress through the world if you aren't online and hosting.
Shared World The original host can choose to Share With Friends to grant them hosting access to the server. This allows them to play on the server even if you're offline.

Note: Backup saves are stored locally for the last person to host the server. If you end up losing progress, make sure the person who re-hosts the server was the last person to host it.

How to Share Worlds with Friends

1
When you first create your Shared World, open the Game Menu and navigate to Player List.
2
From there, you'll be able to see the option Share With Friends. Press it to bring up the share world menu.
3
From the friends list display (left side of screen), choose the friends you want to have hosting permissions. Friends who appear in the Shared With list (right side of screen) will be able to host this world state even if you're offline.

Split Screen (Local Co-op) Unavailable

You will not be able to play split screen multiplayer in Grounded 2. Players will need separate systems and their own copies of the game to play together.
