Defeat the Frost Guide |
---|
|
If you chose to defeat the frost, you'll have to upgrade New London's Generator with Oil Pumps.
This improves the Generator's efficiency in processing oil to generate heat, but comes with two downsides:
Squalor can be managed by constructing buildings such as the Moss-Filtration Tower that goes in Housing Districts, and the Waste Repurposing Facility that goes in Industrial Districts.
Both solutions can be researched under Filtration Towers and Waste Management Facilities in the Resources tab of the Idea Tree.
With the oil pumps in place, you can now research the next upgrade for the Generator which enables Surplus Injectors. This allows the Generator to burn excess oil and increase the output of all districts by up to 15%.
Surplus Injectors can be researched under Generator Upgrade II in the Heating tab of the Idea Tree, and costs 4 Cores to construct.
Cores cannot be manufactured and can only be obtained by sending Frostland Teams to explore the frostland.
Activate the Surplus Injectors and increase the oil output going from the Old Dreadnought to New London to reach a Heat Surplus. This should let you meet the Heat demand for the incoming whiteout.
There are other sources of Oil in the frostland:
You can also build Coal Liquefactors that convert Coal into Oil. Coal Liquefactors can be researched under the Heating tab of the Idea Tree. They also increase Squalor so make sure your solutions are ready!
Survive the whiteout by stockpiling resources in Hubs. Ideally, this should be done while you're working towards the Generator upgrades.
You can also switch the Generator to run in Overdrive if you still cannot meet the Heat demand.
Embrace the Frost Guide |
---|
|
If you chose to embrace the frost, you'll need to look to the frostland and establish settlements which will become your main source of resources.
Start by outfitting New London's Generator with Adaptive Pumps so it can process other sources of fuel like Coal and Steam.
Adaptive Pumps are under the Central tab of the building construction panel, go into the Central District.
The Settlement Heating research under the Heating tab of the Idea Tree upgrades outposts into settlements which provide unlimited resources.
The Skyways research is under the Frostland tab enables you to move resources from settlements, outposts, and colonies in higher quantities.
How to Unlock the Idea Tree and All Ideas
There are two outposts located just north of New London that can be upgraded into settlements. The outpost north east of New London is a Coal source, while the one directly above increases Stockpile limits.
The resource deposits around New London will eventually run out! You must aggressively explore the frostland for more resources and transfer them while managing New London's problems!
The Adaptive Pumps of the Generator allow you to use Coal as a fuel source. Some sources may not be outposts that can be converted into settlements, but you should still put them in your stockpile.
Once you've captured an outpost, upgrade it into a settlement to increase its output. Settlements will provide unlimited resources so you should seek them out!
Note that upgrading outposts have hefty requirements, including Cores, and must be connected via Skyways!
A settlement can be upgraded further by selecting “Expand Operations” to boost its output and population.
Expanding operations requires even more resources and Cores, but makes the settlement resistant to whiteouts. This means that settlements will continue to ship resources even during whiteouts!
Prepare for the whiteout by exploring the frostland and stockpiling as much resources as you can in Hubs. Prioritize looking for sources of fuel like Coal and Oil in the frostland to boost Heat production.
Try to upgrade the Generator with Adaptive Injectors before the whiteout hits. This increases the Heat yield from fuel sources so you can meet the Heat demand during the whiteout.
Research Adaptive Injectors in the Idea Tree under the Heating tab.
