How to Get Shelter

  1. Construct Housing Districts
  2. Build on Areas Exposed to Wind
  3. Research the Housing Block Idea

Construct Housing Districts

In order to get more Shelter, you have to build additional Housing Districts. Try to place them in blue highlighted areas as these usually give bonus stats as long as you fill up the required nodes. Keep in mind that you need to fill up 3 nodes to acquire the Heat boost or else it will not take effect.

Avoid hazardous areas (red highlight) as they increase Squalor which makes Districts prone to being damaged, causing you to spend Prefabs for repairs.

Expand Your Housing Districts

Expand Your Housing Districts

Once you have built your Housing Districts, you can select them and press the arrows icon to expand your district with 3 additional nodes at the cost of 50 Heatstamps and Prefabs. Try to place them near Food Districts or other Housing Districts to gain that free +20 Heat.

Build on Areas Exposed to Wind

Build on Areas Exposed to Wind

Certain areas within your city are capable of increasing Shelter when building Districts on them. Especially keep a look out for the Exposed to Wind area as this will give +10 Shelter at the cost of -20 Heat.

Research the Housing Block Idea

Research the Housing Block Idea

The Housing Block idea gives access to building Housing Blocks in your expanded Housing Districts which provides up to +25 Shelter depending one which housing block you researched.

We recommend choosing the Dense Housing Block as this gives the highest Shelter increase at the cost of Disease being slightly increased which can be fixed through other means.
