At the beginning of Chapter 2, you are given this choice before continuing your playthrough and choosing one of them will change your objectives throughout the chapter. Choosing to Defeat the Frost will give your Generator the Oil Pumps upgrade which only uses Oil, but will allow you to use the unlimited deep deposit nodes.
On the other hand, choosing to Embrace the Frost will give your Generator the Adaptive Pumps upgrade which allows you to use any type of fuel such as Coal, Oil, and Steam and will give your frostland settlements unlimited resources.
We recommend choosing Embrace the Frost as this a better choice since it provides your Generator with various fuel choices if ever one of your resources gets depleted, and unlocks the unlimited resource output for all Frostland Settlements.
This means you will have to focus on Launching Expeditions with your Frostland Teams to make full use of the benefits such as discovering other settlements and finding other fuel types.
