Frostpunk 2 has preset difficulties available but the game also allows the player an option to fully customize the difficulty for each game Variable by using the slider on the respective variable.
Be careful when setting your difficulty! you can only set the difficulty at the start of the game. Once you start it you won't be able to adjust it.
Players looking for an extra challenge have an option to activate Survivor Mode. When playing with this mode on there will be no active pause and progress is only saved on game exit.
If you've never played Frostpunk or any city-builder builder game then playing on this level is highly recommended. This will help you get a grasp on handling the variables that your need to maintain as well as getting yourself familiar with the city-building aspect and politcs of the game without.
With the Citizen difficulty you will be able to fully digest the harrowing story of New London without worrying about concurrent crises happening in the city.
For more experienced players who are familiar with Frostpunk's gameplay but still want some margin for mistakes, Officer Difficulty is for you. On this difficulty resources will be harder to come by and the demands of your city will be higher.
You will need to manage the balance between your resources, your citizens demands, and the Factions more carefully.
Highly experienced players looking for a challenge will want to play on Steward difficulty. Resources will be scarce, the weather will be problematic, and the people will agitated. At this level, every decision counts and a mistake can cause you to lose progress faster.
There is very little room for error on this difficulty and concurrent crises are more likely to happen.
For Veteran players who are looking for a punishing challenge Captain Difficulty is for you. You will be scraping the bottom of the barrel for resources, not just inside your city but out in Frostlands as well. Weather will be severe and the people are frantic.
