Crouch and sneak your way behind an enemy to execute a stealth takedown. You can either use your knife for a quick kill, or strangle your enemy which takes longer but conserves your knife usage.
If you see two enemies talking, wait for them to finish and they'll move away from each other to give you your opening. The game encourages stealthy approaches and often gives openings like this that may not be obvious at first.

Knives have a limited number of uses before you need to sharpen the knife. However, whetstones are hard to come by with only around one to two whetstones available per chapter.
Planning when to use your knife can greatly affect the number of quick takedowns and lockpicks that you can do in a mission. It is recommended to simply strangle the enemy when a quick takedown is not needed!
Scannaturi Knives can be thrown silently, giving you a ranged stealthy approach. This gives you more flexibility and adaptability when encountering enemies that are too far to approach.
You can throw either a coin or a bottle to lure an enemy towards its thrown location. In doing so, you can split up grouped enemies or lure an enemy to an isolated spot.
You can only bring a number of coins and these cannot be picked up again once thrown. While you cannot bring bottles, these are scattered around the mission area and can be picked up and thrown to cause a distraction.
In certain chapters, however, coins can be looted from bodies, which gives you an opportunity to create more distractions for enemies.

Whenever Enzo uses Instinct, he is able to see all the enemies nearby, even when you are behind cover, or reveal enemies through terrain.
Make sure to use Instinct often when attempting stealth runs, as it is a very useful mechanic that can help you plan your routes or when to take down enemies more effectively.

Charms are equippable items that grant you passive bonuses. Some beads, like the Fantasma Bead, grants the effect of dampening your footstep sound. Choose and equip the beads that will match your stealthy playstyle!

In Mafia: The Old Country, you can drag dead bodies to hidden areas to avoid enemies from spotting it. This will avoid the hassle of dealing with alerted enemies that will actively search for you.
There are also certain items, such as crates, where you can store dead bodies to avoid being found by patrolling enemies.
