Start the game on Hard Mode and never even try to change the setting after. It might be obvious not to do this but you might forget that the game uses an autosave system which means if you've accidentally done this at any point in your run, you may have to start over from the beginning.
Difficulty Setting Differences and How to Change
If you have a choice between going in guns blazing or taking the nice and quiet approach, always go for stealth. Hard Mode does not change anything about stealth but it does make combat much harder. Play it smart and work your way towards the objective patiently.
The game does encourage the stealthy approach by giving you obvious and convenient openings to take enemies out with Stealth Takedowns. If you see two enemies talking, wait for them to finish and they'll move away from each other to give you your opening.
For almost all the objectives in the story, the game does not impose a time restriction for you to follow. You can always just take your time in shootouts and learn to be patient with your shots. Always stay in cover and never rush to an enemy just to get shot down instantly.
Always try to aim for headshots in Hard Mode. Headshots will always instantly take the enemy out even with the lower damage due to playing in Hard Mode.
Rasolu knives are the type of knives in the game that lets you perform Combat Takedowns. While it won't be your primary option, these are useful to have since Combat Takedowns always one-shots enemies even in Hard Mode. You'll even be invulnerable during the animation.
Only use Combat Takedowns when you really have to like when an enemy gets too close while you're reloading or out of ammo or even if it's the last enemy left. You have limited sharpness on your knives and whetstones are rarely found.

The best Rasolu knives to use are those with Vital and Light-Fingered perks. Vital heals Enzo a considerable amount after every Combat Takedown while Light-Fingered allows you to instantly loot enemies for supplies (and Dinari) on takedowns.

Charms give useful passive effects that can help make your Hard Mode playthrough much easier. You have many options to choose from:
While still looking for the charms you need, just equip any charm you have since they are always better than nothing.

In Hard Mode, enemies hit hard with their shots sometimes even dealing almost all your HP bar. Be sure to use bandages to heal up after every wave of enemies especially if you find a spare one. Also remember to wait for your HP bar to stop blinking red before exposing yourself.
You will most likely die a lot in your playthrough but don't worry, just try again and learn from mistakes. The checkpoints in the game are usually convenient enough that you don't have to redo a lot of things.
