How to Fight Dettlaff Van Der Eretein
You can encounter this fight during the Blood and Wine Main Quest: Tesham Mutna. In this fight, you will have to fight Dettlaff in his three forms which will require different strategies for each form.
How to Fight Dettlaff's Vampire Form
When Dettlaff is in his Vampire Form, you can fight him the same you you fought him as the The Beast of Beauclair during the Blood and Wine Main Quest: Blood Run. The best way to deal with him is to counter his attacks and counterattack while he is vulnerable.
How to Fight Dettlaff's True Form
When Dettlaff has transformed into his true form, he will start flying at the start of battle. During this time he is immune to all ranged attacks. The best way to deal with him is to hit him with the Aard Sign before he hits you when he does his flying dash attack towards you.
If you have successfully hit him with the Aard Sign, he will tumble down to the ground and will give you a large amount of time to attack him.
How to Fight Dettlaff's Blood Form
When Dettlaff has retreated to his cocoon, he will summon a Blood Construct to fight for him. The only way to defeat him during this phase is to destroy the three flesh columns that are pumping blood to Dettlaff's cocoon.
The best to deal with him in this phase is to use your ranged arsenal to hit the flesh columns while trying to contain the Blood Construct. You can also try and defeat the Blood Construct which will give you a lot of time to attack the flesh columns, but it will soon revive starting with a divebomb directed towards you.
What Preparations to Make?
You should use your Silver Sword and coat it with Vampire oil to deal bonus damage to them. Prepare a lot bombs that deal damage like the Grapeshot Bomb and the Dancing Star Bomb so you can have an easier time dealing with Dettlaff in his Blood Form.
Special Sign Effects
- Aard - This can be used to bring down Dettlaff from the sky when he is in his True Form.
- Yrden - This can be used to slow down the Blood Construct when Dettlaff is in his Blood Form in order to damage the flesh columns.
