How to Use Copy Abilities

Swallow Enemies to Gain Copy Abilities

Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Swallow Enemies to Gain Copy Abilities

To gain copy abilities, Kirby needs to swallow specific types of enemies that give that copy ability. The ability will usually have similar qualities as the enemy swallowed, but not all enemies can give copy abilities. You can only have one ability active at a time.

Hold Y to Drop Ability

Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Hold Y to Drop Ability

To drop an ability that you currently have, hold Y or press the - Button. After a few seconds, Kirby will drop the ability and spit out an ability bubble. Kirby will also involuntarily drop his ability after taking too much damage.

How to Drop Abilities

Swallow or Interact with Ability Bubbles

Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Swallow or Interact with Ability Bubbles

After Kriby drops his ability, an ability bubble will exist for a limited time in the world. Swallow the bubble before it disappears to reabsorb the ability.

You can also occassionally find ability bubbles before boss fights. In these case, you do not need to swallow the bubble. Simply touch it to pick up the copy ability.

Evolve Copy Abilities

Blueprints can be found hidden in different levels. To evolve a copy ability, you will need to find the blueprint and upgrade it back at Waddle Dee Town. After which, you will permanently gain access to the evolved ability.

Powering Up Copy Abilities

Kirby Power Up Blizzard Ice

Aside from evolving copy abilities, you can also power up some copy abilities to increase their damage. However, this is only available after beating the main story and it does not grant it any additional effects.

The higher the evolutionary stage of the copy ability, the fewer times it can be upgraded. Stage 4 Copy Abilities can only be upgraded once.

How to Power Up (Upgrade) Abilities

Different from Mouthful Mode

Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Mouthful Mode

Mouthful Mode and Copy Abilities are two different features in the game and function separately. Though you need to drop your current ability to pick up a new one, you can activate Mouthful Mode without dropping your current copy ability.
