Helldivers 2 - All Mission Types

There are four mission types or Operations in Helldivers 2: Bug Extermination, Defend Freedom, Protect Liberty, and Destroy Automatons. Check out all the mission types for Helldivers 2 in this guide!

Bug Extermination (Terminid Faction)

Helldivers 2 - Bug Extermination Mission

Bug Extermination is a Terminid Faction mission type wherein you will mostly go up against bug bosses such as the Brood Commander, the Charger, and the Bile Titan. You will also be diving into missions where you will have to destroy Terminid eggs and structures found deep within bug hives.

All Bug Extermination Missions

Mission Timer Description
Eliminate Brood Commander 40 Minutes Track down and eliminate the Brood Commander.
Eliminate Charger 40 Minutes Track down and eliminate the Charger.
Eliminate Bile Titan 40 Minutes Track down and eliminate the Bile Titan.
Blitz: Search and Destroy 12 Minutes Locate and destroy Terminid Structures.
Eradicate Terminid Swarm 15 Minutes Kill Terminids to thin their numbers.
Purge Hatcheries 40 Minutes Find and destroy all Terminid eggs.
Launch ICBM 40 Minutes Prepare and launch the local ICBM.

Defend Freedom (Terminid Faction)

Helldivers 2 - Collecting Data

Defend Freedom is a Terminid Faction mission type and often involves collecting data, surveying an area, and rescuing civilians from the invaders of their home planet.

All Defend Freedom Missions

Mission Timer Description
Conduct Geological Survey 40 Minutes Conduct a geological survey to identify valuable ore veins.
Upload Escape Pod Data 40 Minutes A crashed escape pod in the region contains valuable data.
Retrieve Valuable Data 40 Minutes Retrieve and transmit the vital research data.
Activate E-710 Pumps 40 Minutes The extractors over this massive repository of E-710 have ceased functioning and must be re-activated.
Pump Fuel to ICBM 40 Minutes The fueling station is offline. It must be reactivated before the ICBM can be launched.
Emergency Evacuation 40 Minutes Evacuate civilians trapped deep within the Terminid swarm.
Launch ICBM 40 Minutes Prepare and launch the local ICBM.
Spread Democracy 40 Minutes Raise the Super Flag as unassailable beacon of Liberty.
Eradicate Terminid Swarm 15 Minutes Kill Terminids to thin their numbers.

Protect Liberty (Automaton Faction)

Helldivers 2 - Evacuating Civilians

Protect Liberty is an Automaton Faction mission type where you will usually be tasked with disabling illegal broadcasting systems, sabotaging supply bases, and locating research data.

Terminate Illegal Broadcast 40 Minutes An illegal propaganda broadcast has been traced to this location.
Sabotage Supply Bases 40 Minutes Infiltrate Automaton territory and destroy their fuel and munitions stockpiles.
Eradicate Automaton Forces 15 Minutes Kill Automatrons to reduce their forces.
Pump Fuel to ICBM 40 Minutes The fueling station is offline. It must be reactivated before the ICBM can be launched.
Spread Democracy 40 Minutes Raise the Super Flag as unassailable beacon of Liberty.
Blitz: Search and Destroy 12 Minutes Locate and destroy Automaton fabricators.

Destroy Automatons (Automaton Faction)

Helldivers 2 - Standard Devastator

Destroy Automatons is an Automaton Faction mission type and involves a lot of boss fights, such as hunting for the Hulk and Devastator, as well as killing a set amount of Automatons.

Eliminate Automaton Hulk 40 Minutes Locate and eliminate the Automaton Hulk.
Eliminate Automaton Devastator 40 Minutes Locate and eliminate the Automaton Devastator.
Eradicate Automaton Forces 15 Minutes Kill Automatrons to reduce their forces.
Blitz: Search and Destroy 12 Minutes Locate and destroy Automaton fabricators.
Sabotage Air Base 40 Minutes Sabotage Automaton air capabilities in the region.
Terminate Illegal Broadcast 40 Minutes An illegal propaganda broadcast has been traced to this location.
Sabotage Supply Bases 40 Minutes Infiltrate Automaton territory and destroy their fuel and munitions stockpiles.

Not All Missions Appear in Each Difficulty

It's important to note that not all missions are available in each difficulty level. Some missions will only appear in higher or lower difficulty settings.

Difficulty Levels Differences

Be Aware of Environmental Conditions

Condition Effect
Rainstorms Torrential rainstorms that reduce visiblity.
Thick Fog Dense fog that reduces visiblity.
Intense Heat Increase in Stamina Drain and Heat Buildup in weapons.
Sandstorms Dense sandstorms that reduce visiblity.
Extreme Cold Reduces rate of fire and delay heat build up of weapons.
Blizzards Intense snowstorms that reduce visibility.
Acid Storms Violent acid storms that reduce visiblity.

Players should be aware of the possible Environmental Conditions of the planet they're about to drop into for their mission. These conditions will usually punish the player with negative status effects, such as severely reducing visibility and reducing the rate of fire of your weapons.

Watch Out For Planetary Hazards

Helldivers 2 - Planetary Hazards Guide

As of Patch 1.000.100, additional conditions known as Planetary Hazards have been introduced. These harsh conditions can extend Stratagem cooldowns, disable them entirely, or inflict damage to players and enemies alike with meteors or volcanic rocks.
