As of the 1.000.102 patch update last March 12, 2024, no changes have been made for any Automaton enemies so far in Helldivers 2. But, the update nerfed some Terminid enemies!

Use Heavy Armor Penetrating Weapons

Automaton enemies such as the Hulk and the Heavy Devastator have heavy armor that cannot be penetrated by regular weapons. When doing a mission on planets occupied by Automatons, always bring a Support Weapon that can pierce through their armor.

For beginners, the EAT-17 and the Recoilless Rifle are great weapons that can be used to kill heavily armored Automatons.

Know Automaton Weak Spots

The key to efficiently defeating Automaton enemies is to know which part of their body will have you inflict fatal damage. For almost all Automaton enemies, whichever part glows red is a weak spot. For some, the orange vents at their back are also weak spots!

Automatons Use Ranged Weapons

Unlike Terminids, most Automaton enemies use guns, rocket launchers, and cannons as their weapons. So, most of them will attack you in long range. Remember to always take cover or deploy shields like the Shield Generator Relay to block projectiles.

In addition, you can also opt to use Marksman Rifles to snipe them down safely behind cover at long-range.

Prevent Bot Drops

Bot Drops occur when a Trooper or a Commissar uses a flare gun to call for Automaton reinforcements. You can prevent Bot Drops by killing the enemy with a flare gun before it shoots the red flare into the sky.

If there are still Automaton grunts on the battlefield, one of them will try to call for another Dropship. If you fail to prevent the ones after the first attempt, the next thing you can do is shoot down the Dropship using a Support Weapon like the EAT-17!
