This is a guide to all the difficulty settings available in Hell is Us. Learn about the difficulty settings in the game, every difficulty setting option, and the effects of difficulty in the game.
List of Contents
One of the main effects of your chosen difficulty setting is the enemy's total HP. Lowering the difficulty also lowers the enemy's total HP, and increasing the difficulty does the opposite.
Changing the difficulty setting will also alter the enemy's damage output. Lower it to lower your enemy's damage and vice versa. The last metric that difficulty affects will be the enemy's aggressiveness. Lower difficulty will increase the window where enemies will wait, and increasing the difficulty will make enemies attack more frequently.
All the metric effects above can be adjusted individually to create your custom difficulty. This allows you to lower enemy HP but increase their damage for a faster game progression, or lower their damage and increase their aggressiveness to practice your parry timings.
The Death Penalty, which makes you lose all shards and EXP upon death, is not changed by the difficulty setting. This is a setting you can manually change from the difficulty settings section on the gameplay tab.

Head to the settings menu, on the gameplay tab, you can scroll down to the combat difficulty tab to adjust the gameplay to what suits you.

The game also lets you change the game's difficulty at the start of the game. You'll be able to change it anytime in-game, so do not worry and choose what you think will be perfect for your playstyle.
| Difficulty | Evaluation |
|---|---|
| Normal | Best for balanced experience |
| Easy Mode | Best for story focused players |
| Merciless | Best for ARPG veterans |
Normal Mode is the ideal difficulty setting. The game presents challenges to make the game's combat feel thrilling, but still fair, and it also has tons of options to approach fights while not making the game feel unfair.
Easy Mode is perfect for players who are entirely new to action-adventure games. The game also presents a ton of timing-based movement, and players who are not used to this playstyle should consider lowering the difficulty setting for a more enjoyable experience.
Lastly, Merciless is the best difficulty for players who thrive on the enjoyment of overcoming challenges. The game already presents a good amount of difficulty as is, and increasing it further is perfect for players who are left wanting more.
