Timing your guard against the enemy attack can trigger a riposte in Hell Is Us. Read on to learn how to find the right timing to constantly trigger Riposte and its advantages!
List of Contents
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Parry the Enemy Attack |
| 2 | Hit the Enemy with Riposte |

Parrying is using the guard command with perfect timing as the enemy attacks. You will know the perfect time to parry, as it will be indicated by the enemy having a slight change of color. Parrying will block enemy damage and deplete the enemy's stance.
Some attacks are too strong to parry and counter with a riposte, such as the Artillery Walker's charged attack and the Haze of Rage's ground attack. We recommend testing out which enemy attacks are possible counter and which are not.

When the enemy's attack is parried, an indicator will appear above them. Press the command shown in the indicator to trigger a riposte. This move will allow you to deal greater damage than usual or execute the enemy.

|
| Relic | Effect |
|---|---|
| Swashbuckler's Esssence | Passively increases riposte damage. |
| Mark of the Betrayed | Increases parry damage by 200% for 10 seconds. |
Riposte damage can be further amplified through the use of certain relics, such as the Swashbuckler's Essence and Mark of the Betrayed. The latter does not directly increase Riposte damage but provides a damage buff whenever you parry, which is a prerequisite for riposte. Make sure to activate the Riposte within the damage buff's duration!
You are invulnerable for a brief period of time to enemy attack while executing the riposte animation. Make sure to take advantage of this, especially when dealing with multiple enemies.
Parrying enemy attacks is a prerequisite to activating Riposte, so it is crucial to identify parry openings and to time them correctly to consistently trigger Riposte.
| Weapon Type | Parry Grade |
|---|---|
| Twin Axes | A |
| Sword | B |
| Polearm | C |
| Greatsword | D |
Having a weapon with a higher Parry Grade will make parrying easier, thus making Riposte easier to access as well. We recommend using Lymbic Twin Axes, since they have the highest Parry Grade out of all weapon types.
Monsters like the Feral Walker are dangerous to recklessly take head-on. In addition to using your abilities, it is better to patiently wait to parry its attack, then riposte to quickly execute and deal with it.
