This is a guide on how to use the compass in Hell Is Us. Read on to learn how to open, utilize, and maximize the compass in the game.

Compass, Model#KD1035. Aluminum alloy frame. Water and corrosion resistant. Widely used by many European military and ON peacekeeping forces.

How to Get Compass

Available at the start

You automatically acquire the Compass when you begin your journey after the initial intro cutscene.

How to Use Compass

Select it then Press Down or Q

Input Device Key to Open Keys to Select
Controller Down Left and Right
Keyboard Q F and G

The compass can be equipped in a quick slot. When using the controller, press the left and right directional keys to cycle among items until the compass is selected. Then, press the Down directional key to activate it.

While on the keyboard, the F and G keys are used for cycling among items, while the Q key is for activating the compass.

A Visual Compass Appears Overhead

Activating the compass will prompt a visual above briefly. You can use it to determine the direction you need to navigate. When it disappears and is needed again, simply toggle the activation key.

Use the Compass with Visual Cues

No maps

Hell Is Us does not provide maps, HUD markers, or traditional navigation tools except a compass. To maximize the compass, it is best to associate compass directions with the environment. Landmarks like a distinct tree, structure, or pavement can serve as directional anchors.

There might be an instance where you are following the compass heading north, but a wall or an enemy blocks the way. In such case, reroute and circle around while keeping north as your reference. When combined with careful observation and resourcefulness, the compass will be an effective guiding tool in the game.

Pay Attention to Directional Clues from NPCs

From cutscenes to casual conversations, NPCs will often provide hints like "Head towards the marshes to the west". Clues like this are meant to be used in conjunction with the compass. Reference these directions with your compass to head to the right path.
