All Marchosias Choices

Four Marchosias Encounters

Marchosias Encounter Choices
1st Encounter Keep enough food to last 5 days
Keep enough food to last 10 days but lose half a Heart
2nd Encounter Give Marchosias all of your Rotburn
Give Marchosias all of your food
3rd Encounter Give Marchosias all of your Rotburn
Destroy all Rotten Followers in your cult
Final Encounter Indoctrinate Marchosias
Sacrifice Marchosias

As you play through the Woolhaven DLC story, you will encounter Marchosias in what appears to be his office. For each encounter, he will offer you two choices that are meant to put you at a disadvantage, often taking away valuable resources.

Marchosias can only be found on Ewefall, so you won't have to worry about him whenever you go through The Rot.

Before starting a run through Ewefall, however, it is highly recommended to cook a lot of food and avoid stocking up on resources from your farms, Ranch animals, or other dungeons. This should help make Marchosias's choices feel less impactful.

Should You Choose Enough Food for 5 Days or 10 Days?

5 Days or 10 Days Choice Outcomes

5 days Keep enough food ingredients to last 5 days
10 days, lose half a Heart Keep enough food to last 10 days, but permanently lose half a Heart

The first time you meet Marchosias at Ewefall, he will make you choose how much of your food items will be kept in your inventory. If you have a lot of food ingedients, including Grass and Fertiliser, either choice will rob you of a chunk of your inventory. If you choose 10 days, you will also lose half a Heart.

Regardless of your choice, it is best to prepare before heading to Ewefall. Cook meals and avoid gathering produce from your farms before you start a run at Ewefall.

5 Days is the Better Choice

It is best to keep enough food for 5 days, as this does not make you permanently lose a heart. Since Marchosias only takes food items and not seeds, you may grow crops once you lose all your food items.

Alternatively, doing the Feasting Ritual or Ritual Fast can be useful for managing your followers' hunger.

Should You Choose All Rotburn or All Food?

All Rotburn or All Food Choice Outcomes

All Rotburn Lose all of your Rotburn
All Food Lose all of your food items

In your second encounter with Marchosias, he will make you choose between resources. Once you make a choice, you will lose all of the chosen resource, and you will have to gather it again.

All Rotburn is the Better Choice

Choosing to lose all Rotburn is better especially if your Furnace is full or if Winter is not in effect.

You can farm Rotburn again in the aftermath, but be sure to hold off on returning lost souls to Yngya. This allows you to stock up on resources before you introduce a stronger version of Winter.

Choose Food if You Have Cooked All Your Food

Cooking Meals
You may choose to lose all Food if you have cooked almost all of your food items. You may also opt to choose this if your followers' fullness is maxed out or if you have most of your food items unclaimed in your Farmer Stations.

Should You Choose All Rotburn or Rotten Followers?

All Rotburn or Rotten Followers Choice Outcomes

All Rotburn Lose all of your Rotburn
Kill Rotten Followers Lose all of your Rotten followers

During your thrid encounter with Marchosias in Ewefall, he will ask you to give up all of your Rotburn or all of your Rotten followers. By this point in the game, you will likely have accumulated a good amount of both as well as ways of obtaining more of both Rotburn and Rotten followers.

All Rotburn is Usually the Better Choice

At this point in the game, you may already have a steady supply of Rotburn from Rotburn Mine structures or from Turtleish in your Ranch. If this is the case, it should be less of a loss to give up all the Rotburn in your inventory, since you should be able to get more once you're back at your base.

If you still do not have these renewable Rotburn sources, it is recommended to work towards them so that you do not have to keep going through dungeons to get more Rotburn.

How to Get Rotburn

Kill Rotten Followers if You Only Have One

Rotten Follower Dying
If you only have one Rotten follower, especially one that does not have much longer to live, it may be better to choose to kill your Rotten followers. You can always get more from The Rot, Helob, or through the Ritual of Decay.

This choice is not recommended if you have more than one Rotten follower, since these followers are beneficial to your cult.

How to Get Rotten Followers

Final Choice Outcomes

Should You Indoctrinate or Sacrifice Marchosias?

Indoctrinate or Sacrifice
Your choice will not matter as Marchosias will die regardless. If you repeatedly choose Indoctrinate, Marchosias will still choose to die, which means he is not available as a follower.
