During the early game, you will be constructing a variety of buildings for your cult. It is best to stock up on lumber and stone as you will need these materials to make buildings in your base.
You can destroy trees and boulders while on crusades to earn materials while you are out. Back in your base, you can build Lumberyards and Stone Mines to make your followers gather lumber and stone for you.

One reliable way to secure ingredients for meals for your followers is building a farm. You can set up a diamond-shaped layout of Farm Plots surrounding a Farmer Station and assign your cult members to tend the soil. You can also build Seed and Fertilizer Silos and place Scarecrows to scare away birds that steal seeds from your plots.
You will also get more seeds as you progress through the story, as you may purchase them from the Seed Shop in front of the Anchordeep entrance.

While navigating through rooms while doing a crusade, you can hit grass, boulders, bone piles, and other objects to get some materials. This is a useful way to get as much resources as you can while doing a run.
| Trait | Effect |
|---|---|
Grass Eater Trait |
No negative Faith when cult members eat meals made of grass, which is a resource that is very easy to get. |
Faithful Trait |
All cult members will generate Devotion 15% faster, which is useful to get Divine Inspiration. |
Extort Tithes |
Allows you to extort coins from your cult members, but may reduce Faith. |
Ascend Follower Ritual |
Allows you to get rid of a cult member without penalties. Useful for removing dissenters or old cult members. |
As you progress through the story, you will get access to Doctrines which serve as upgrades for you and your cult. All traits can be useful if it fits your playstyle, but some are worth getting as they can help with resource management by a lot.

Beds will often break down which will prevent cult members from sleeping at night. You can upgrade Sleeping Bags into Shelters to upgrade their beds into more durable structures.

Make it a habit to perform sermons every single day as these are free ways to keep your cult's Faith high. You will also get plenty of Devotion after each sermon, which you can use to get Divine Inspirations.
Do note that you should only do these during daytime as your followers will not appreciate waking them up at night!

If you are having trouble progressing through the game or just want to breeze through the story, you can enable several accessibility options in the game's menu.
Notably, you can disable quick-time event inputs, get unlimited health and Fervour, or stop the time in your base when you are out doing a run.

The Brainwashing Ritual locks Faith in full for two days, which you can use as time to focus on other resources or do long runs outside. You can pair this with the Substances Encouraged Doctrine to get more Faith when performing the ritual.

Tarot Cards give you bonus effects whenever you are out during a run. Most tarot cards that are unlocked initially are useful, but some of the better ones are locked behind purchases, so it is best to buy them when you can to expand your pool of cards.

When a follower dies, one way to get rid of their corpse is to bury their body in a Body Pit. This will occupy one space in your base, so you can improve usage of this space by building a Grave on top of the tile.
Followers who walk across Graves can grieve and give you Faith, so you can use this to earn some Faith even while your cult members are walking along your base.

Some enemies will hold shields that reduce the damage they take. You can use heavy attacks to remove their shields and deal regular damage.
Sin, which was added in the Sins of Flesh update, is one of the resources that you may need in the late game. This is also required to get full access to Woolhaven's content.
To easily get Sin, you can make a Drum Circle structure and use it once per day to get one Sin. You may also perform rituals and give your followers drinks from the Drinkhouse to extract Sin from them.

You can transform your followers into demons once you unlock the Demonic Summoning Circle. Once transformed, these demons can help you in runs in various ways, like attacking enemies or giving you more survivability.
These transformations are not permanent, as the demons will turn back into your followers after a run.
