Rotten Followers can be obtained in the Rot, buying followers from Helob, infecting other followers, and through the Ritual of Decay. Read on to learn how to get Rotten Followers and their unique characteristics.
How to Get Rotten Followers

Invite From the Rot
The first time you go through the Rot, you will face a boss that becomes a Rotten Follower upon defeat. This will be the player's first encounter with this type of follower.
You can get more Rotten Followers by defeating minibosses in the Rot.
Buy From Helob
Helob can sell you Rotten Followers in Woolvale. The first Rotten Follower Helob sells is free, so be sure to take advantage of this deal.
Infect Other Followers
If you choose to mate a Rotten Follower with a follower who isn't rotten, there is a chance that the latter will become rotten afterwards. It is best to be careful in choosing which followers to mate.
Do the Ritual of Decay
You may do the Ritual of Decay to create a new Rotten Follower. You may unlock this using Commandment Stones.

Cannot Starve, Freeze, Dissent and Become Ill
Rotten Followers cannot starve, freeze, dissent, and become ill. This is a unique advantage, as you do not have to manage their needs as much as you do with normal followers.
Dies in Ten Days
Rotten Followers will rot away after ten days, so it is best to utilize them well while they are still alive.
Embrace the Rot to Extend Their Lifespan
You may get the Embrace the Rot Doctrine from Yngya to extend the lifespan of Rotten Followers. You will also gain Faith from having at least one Rotten Follower in your cult.
Produces Rotburn Fertilizer
Rotburn Fertilizer is produced by Rotten Followers. It can be used to thaw out frozen farm plots. This allows you to grow crops and stock up on resources even in the winter.
Yield Rotburn Ore After Death
After a Rotten Follower dies, they produce Rotburn Ore that can be mined. This may be useful when gathering Rotburn to use for the Furnace.
Prays to the Rotten Yngya Shrine
Once you gain your first Rotten Follower, the Rotten Yngya Shrine will spawn in the cult settlement. Rotten Followers will pray to this shrine, which can yield the player special rewards such as special Tarot Cards.
Heal the Decay Removes the Rotten Trait
You may turn a Rotten Follower to a normal one with the Heal the Decay Ritual. This will extend their lifespan, but will also remove any benefits that Rotten Followers give.
You may unlock this using Commandment Stones.
