Once you've built a ranch in your cult, you can raise animals you've purchased by interacting with the Ranch building. Make sure there are Ranch Fences going around the space you want for your Ranch. You may unlock different kinds of animals through Baraq's Quest Board.
To raise an animal, you will have to feed, pet, and walk them to raise their levels. Each individual animal has a favorite food. When you feed an animal its favorite food, it will increase their level meter and be marked with a heart in the menu the next time you feed them.
While you will have to feed them yourself in the beginning, you may eventually unlock the Trough so animals can feed themselves.

You will have to take care of the animals yourself at the beginning. However, you may eventually unlock the Ranch II structure from the Divine Inspiration menu. This allows you to assign followers to take care of the Ranch animals instead.

You may shear an animal's Wool once it becomes an adult. Wool can be used to purchase resources in Woolhaven, including more animals.

You may slaughter animals for meat if you assign them to the Butcher's Block. You may also get their meat if they die from old age.

You may breed animals in a Hutch order to raise more of them. Like with followers, you will need to spend Sin in order to have them mate.
The two chosen animals do not need to be the same species. However, it is best to breed two animals of the same species if you want a specific animal.

Once you build the Ranch, it will be at risk for wolf attacks. You may go near them and spank them using the attack button to drive them away. Some followers may also try to fight the wolves.
You may unlock and place Wolf Traps around the Ranch in order to kill wolves that come near. You will need to place Meat inside the Wolf Trap in order to successfully bait them.

Once you unlock the Ranch, build it with 4 Wood and place it in an area with a lot of space. If you do not have enough space for your Ranch, you may pay Gofernon Gold Bars to expand your settlement.

Build fence posts for 1 Wood each around the Ranch building in order to make an enclosed space for your animals. The fence posts must connect on both sides of the ranch, and they must create a space of at least one empty tile in order to turn into a proper connected fence.
This means that the minimum number of fence posts you'll need to create a ranch is 7. You can use the Edit Buildings feature from the build menu in order to move or remove your fence posts if you want to change your ranch space.

Walk over to the Ranch building, and interact with it to place your animals in the Ranch. Only animals you've purchased or obtained can be selected. Note that the number of animals you can keep depends on how much space you have inside your Ranch Fence.
Interacting with the Ranch building also allows you to view all of your animals in the Ranch, their hunger levels, their level meter, and what resources they can produce.
| Size | Animal Capacity |
|---|---|
| 1-3 | 1 Animal |
| 4-6 | 2 Animals |
| 7-9 | 3 Animals |
| 10-12 | 4 Animals |
| 13-15 | 5 Animals |
Players may further increase the size for a larger animal capacity.
The amount of animals you can put in the Ranch depends on its size. Every 3 additional tiles increases the animal capacity by one, so it is best to plan your cult settlement layout accordingly.
| Animal | Resource |

Listed above are a list of all animals you can raise in the Ranch, as well as the resources you can get from them. All of these animals can also produce meat but only when an animal is slaughtered or dies.

When you first start your ranch, only the Yakish will be made available to you. You must accept and complete quests from Baraq's Quest Board in Woolhaven in order to unlock different animals.

You may buy animals from Baraq with Wool. His selection refreshes with each in-game day that passes, so be sure to regularly check Woolhaven.
You may also get animals from Thisle when you are doing a dungeon run. You will need to find an animal tile for this.

When you begin progressing through the Woolhaven DLC, Yngya will ask you to collect Rotburn from Ewefall. During that run, you will obtain the Wool of the Rancher.
Once you return to Woolhaven, one of the graves will start having glowing red eyes. Approach it and bury the Wool of the Rancher. Once you have done this, you will revive Baraq.
How to Get the Wool of the Rancher

After Baraq is revived, he will ask you to obtain 2 Charged Shards. Go back to Ewefall in order to get them.

Once you bring the Charged Shards back to Baraq, he will then ask you to obtain 2 Cursed Yewbark. You will need to go to the Rot in order to retrieve them.

After obtaining all the materials, you will have to consecrate them into Pure Yewbark in the Refinery. Once this is done, you will be able to rebuild Baraq's Ranch in Woolhaven.
After rebuilding Baraq's Ranch, he will unlock the ability to build your own Ranch, as well as give you your first animal.
