Oxygen Meter in Bottom Left

Your Oxygen determines how long you can stay submerged and fishing in the Abyss. Its current value is displayed in the bottom-left of the screen.

Decreases When in Water

As soon as you leave the dome with all the NPCs, you will start to consistently lose Oxygen. This loss will continue for as long as you stay out in the water.

Restore Oxygen by Entering Safe Zones

You can replenish your Oxygen fully by stepping back into the Forgotten Dome where The Kraken is, as well as other safe areas across the m,ap.

There are also several Hostile Fish in-game that will attack you if you are in range, which will also deplete your Oxygen. In addition, the Pufferfish, while not actively hostile, can inflict a poison that further saps Oxygen.

You Drown if It Hits Zero

You Drowned Message

If your Oxygen hits zero while you are out in the water, you will drown. This leads to losing 25% of your catch and money on-hand.

There Are Warnings When Oxygen is Low

There will be visible warnings when your Oxygen is getting low, such as screen-cracking visual effects and accompanying sound effects.

Upgrade the Tank

One way to increase how much Oxygen you have when out fishing is to upgrade your Oxygen Tube. This not only boosts your Oxygen capacity, but also your speed, maximum depth, and maximum weight capacity.

Use Oxygen Pods to Refill the Tank

Oxygen Pods Quest Reward

There are also Oxygen Pods that will refill parts of your Oxygen tank when used. Note that these are consumed upon use, making them one-time-only refills. You can use these from your item bar at the bottom of the screen.
