Forgotten Deep Progression

Accept Quests From Virelia and Mr. Black
Upon spawning and completing the basic tutorial, make sure to accept the quests from Virelia and Mr. Black within the starting area. This is because their quest objectives can be done alongside Kraken's Quests.
Finish Kraken's Quest 1 - 5
Progress through Kraken's Quest 1 - 5, which should land you with the Normal Tube and Advanced Gun.
Save Up for the Pufferfish Tube
The best Tube within Forgotten Deep is the Pufferfish Tube, which is part of Kraken's Quest 6. Save up enough money to purchase it, since it can bring you to the next area, Ancient Sands.
Do Not Buy the Fire Tube and Air Rifle Gun
Though the immediate upgrades can be tempting, it is not recommended to purchase the Fire Tube and Air Rifle Gun. Instead, it is recommended to go straight for the Boat Tube and Crossbow Gun from Marcus in Ancient Sands.
Complete the Scientist's Quest
Before moving onto the next area, make sure to complete the Scientist's Quest to unlock the Teleporter. This makes it much easier to travel between areas, at the cost of a small fee.
For players without the Sell Anywhere Gamepass, this is especially important as you will need to constantly return to the Kraken to sell the fish you catch. Make sure to finish other optional quests to save up more money.

Travel to Ancient Sands
Once you unlock the Teleporter and have the Pufferfish Tube unlocked, you can follow the objective marker towards Ancient Sands. Under the giant arch, there is a Crazy Jeff sign which leads to a cave with air. Quickly enter the cave to get out of critical depths.

Ancient Sands Progression

Farm Fish Near the Crazy Jeff's Cave Entrance
With the Pufferfish Tube, the depths of the water are still too deep, so you cannot stay out for too long. However, the fish here can sell for more, so you can catch fish near the cave entrance to quickly get oxygen back when you are low.
Purchase the Crossbow Gun and Boat Tube from Marcus
Save up a total of $10,000 to purchase both the Crossbow Gun and Boat Tube from Marcus, which can get you through majority of the fish available in Ancient Sands.
Marcus can be found near Crazy Jeff's cave, right next to a giant skeleton.
Progress Through Marcus's Quests
Your main quests will come from Marcus, who can provide a lot of Money and EXP. Make sure to purchase the Radar from the starting area in Forgotten Deep to easily identify the fish you need.
Make sure to progress the quests from Mr. Black and Virelia as well to maximize the resources you gain.
Save Up for Wasted Gun and Rukiry Tube
The best equipment in the Ancient Sands are the Wasted Gun and Rukiry Tube. You will need a total of $58,000 to purchase these, which you can farm for by completing Marcus's and Grumpy Hank's Quests.
Grumpy Hank Location
Grumpy Hank and the Rukiry Tube can be located southwest of Crazy Jeff's Store. Though Grumpy Hank is nearby, be careful of Sharks swimming around the area!
Travel to Spirit Roots
Once you have the Wasted Gun and Rukiry Tube, you can comfortably travel to the next area! Follow the objective marker with question marks to reach Spirit Roots.
Note that technically, you can reach Spirit Roots with just the Zepline Tube, but the area may be difficult to reach since it is too deep for this Tube. Thus, it is recommended to farm for Rukiry Tube to go to the next area.

Spirit Roots Progression

Accept Lumi's and Isolde's Quests
Once you arrive in Spirit Roots, make sure to accept the quests from Lumi and Isolde. You can progress their quests as you fish normally outside the Spirit Roots entrance.
Farm the Fish Outside the Entrance
Your main source of farming money are the fish just outside the Spirit Roots entrance. These sell considerably more than fish in Ancient Sands.
Purchase the Oxy Tube and Magroot Gun
Save up a total of $105,000 to purchase the Oxy Tube and Magroot Gun found nearby Lumi. These equipment will last for a longer while as you progress deeper into Spirit Roots.
Complete Isolde's Quests
Focus on completing Isolde's Quests to unlock the barrier towards the back of the area. This area introduces Victor, a new NPC with a questline.

Save Up For Lost Spirit Tube and Gun
As you progress through Victor's Quests, save up a total of $318,250 to purchase both Lost Spirit Tube and Lost Spirit Gun. Lost Spirit Tube will allow you to dive into the underground area of the nearby cave, where you can catch Legendary Fish such as the Eyefish.
Farm Until Level 35
Once you have the Lost Spirit Tube and Gun, you will need to farm until level 35 to unlock quests from the Lost Captain. Progressing through the Lost Captain's Quests will unlock Angler's Cave, which is a locked area behind his location.
Farm EXP with Starting Area Fish
You can quickly farm for EXP by catching fish in the Forgotten Deep. They provide slightly lower EXP than fish in Spirit Roots, but can be caught much faster. If you are not looking to upgrade your equipment anytime soon, it is recommended to farm EXP in the Forgotten Deep.

Unlock Angler's Cave
Once you have the Lost Spirit Gun and Lost Spirit Tube at your disposal, unlock Angler's Cave by completing Lost Captain's Quest Chain and explore the area for more fish to catch!
Lost Captain Quest Chain Guide
Obtain the Ruined Tube and Gear from Lightkeeper
Enter the Lightkeeper's first and obtain his quest first before starting fishing. You can also buy his powerful Ruined Tube and Ruined Gun which can get you started on Sunken Wilds!
Catch the King Anglerfish
The King Anglerfish is considered the boss of the Angler's Cave. Catch it in order to get massive amounts of Cash and EXP to propel your progression in the game.

Travel to Sunken Wilds
Once you have the Ruined Tubes and Guns, head down the Sunken Wilds area which can be found south east of Spirit Roots.
If you don't have the Ruined Gears, but have around 600,000 cash and a bunch of Oxygen tanks in hand, you can instead brute force your way to buy the next basic upgrades which should match its stats.

Head to Builder Monkey's Location and Quest

Head straight to the Builder Monkey inside the Monkey King's Lair, or the safety area cave in the middle of the map area. You will need to complete his quest chain in order to access King Monkey's location on the other side of the cave.
Note: If you skipped Angler's Cave, you should buy the Banana Tube and Gun from the Builder Monkey to be able to fish in Sunken Wilds safely.

Unlock Wild Gun and Tube from King Monkey's Quests
Once you've unlocked the path to the next major quest NPC, King Monkey, grind your way to complete all his 7 quests to unlock the final tier of Tube and Gun for this area! The fish he requests progressively gets harder so make sure to upgrade your gears if needed.
Complete All Side Quests
Other than these main quests, there are also 5 other quest NPCs in the area that you can complete for the Sunken Key and the secret Amethyst Crystal Artifact.
Some quests require specific fish and mutations like Banana, and there area also time or weather-specific mutations like Liquid (which only appears when raining). You can check your time and weather on the bottom left of your screen!
The Monk's side-quest for example requires Liquid-mutated fish.
