Takashi Miike is a real-life Japanese filmmaker who appears in Episode 9 of No More Heroes 3 to help Travis out of his grave. He is Travis and Bishop's favorite movie director and is referenced several times throughout the game.
He has also been referenced frequently in other No More Heroes games and has also made a cameo in No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle.
At the start of each episode, we can watch a cutscene of Travis and Bishop through a television monitor, discussing some of Takashi Miike's films and shows.
At the start of Episode 2, Travis and Bishop talk about Miike's latest production of Girls x Heroine. They talk about how Miike is using the series to test the limits of Japanese CGI and improve his later works.
In Episode 3, Bishops asks Travis a series of questions about Miike's films while giving his own opinions on the matter. Here, we also find out which Miike films Travis and Bishop prefer the most.

At the start of Episode 5, Travis and Bishop argue on whether Miike reads the original material for his films or just bases them entirely off the script. In the end, they both instead just decide to watch Terra Formars together.
During their discussion in Episode 6, Travis and Bishop praise Miike's underground society series, also known as the Black Society Trilogy, likening Travis to Kitamura, a protagonist in one of the films in the trilogy.
In Episode 7, Bishop and Travis are joined by NT Kamui as they watch a Miike film. Though the title of the film was never mentioned, it is implied to be Ichi the Killer after them mentioning the names of the character, Kakihara, and the actor portraying him, Asano.
They also once again mention the Girls x Heroin series and Miike's guest appearance in an episode of the Japanese drama series, AIBOU: Tokyo Detective Duo.
During their discussion in Episode 6, Travis and Bishop talk about Miike's comedies, specifically, The Mole Song: Undercover Agent Reiji and Zebraman. We also find out that though Bad Girl is not familiar with Takashi Miike, she is a fan of Anime.
At the start of Episode 9, Travis and Bishop talk about their top three Miike period pieces, which are 13 Assassins, Ninja Kids!!!, and Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai, in that order. They also mention K-tai Investigator 7, Cows Zero 2, and Over Your Dead Body.
After Travis is killed in Episode 9, Miike himself appears in No More Heroes 3 to help Travis out of the grave. When Travis realizes who is he is, he speculates about possible movies he could be shooting in California and even requests a live-action version of No More Heroes.
In Episode 10, Travis and Bishop are joined by Shinobu in a viewing party of Miike and Hideaki Itō, a Japanese actor who stars in many of Miike's films. However, after Shinobu mentions that she is a fan of G-Style, which relates to swordplay, they decide to watch another of Miike's films Blade of the Immortal.
