Gohr’s Devastating Grips Hotfix Announcement

We have disabled the unique power on “Gohr’s Devastating Grips” as it is outperforming our expectations. We will have a balance fix for this in an upcoming client patch before we re-enable it.

On June 3, 2023 at 5:50 PM EST, Adam Fletcher, the Diablo 4 Community Manager announced that the Unique Effect for the Gohr’s Devastating Grips Unique Gloves has been temporarily disabled due to being too strong.

Is Gohr's Devastating Grips Re-enabled?

Restored and Adjusted in Version 1.0.2d

Gohr's Devastating Grips was restored a few hours after it was disabled by the arrival of the Version 1.0.2d Patch. However, it received the following balance adjustments:

  • Explosion damage gained from Whirlwind reduced from 50-70% to 16-26%.
  • Damage against wreckable objects no longer increases explosion damage.
  • Explosion damage is only increased by the first 100 hits of Whirlwind.

Version 1.0.2d Patch Notes and Balance Changes

Why Was Gohr’s Devastating Grips Disabled?

Overpowered Unique Effect

Unique Item Details
GohrGohr's Devastating Grips
(Gloves)
Effect: Whirlwind explodes every 2 seconds and after it ends, dealing (16-26)% of the total Base damage dealt to surrounding enemies as Fire damage.
Requirement: World Tier 3 or Higher

The Unique Effect for Gohr’s Devastating Grips is easy to exploit. As Whirlwind is a Channeling Skill, players can start and stop repeatedly to yield the effect and spam powerful explosions.

Despite this, the community on the Blizzard.com forums is not happy about the change, with players working towards a Whirlwind build expecting to use Gohr’s Devastating Grips feeling that they might have wasted their investment if an upcoming nerf is too severe.

We're hoping that the changes simply prevent the effect from being exploited, and don't actually serve as a nerf to the damage output of the beloved Unique.
