Kill Automatons With a Flare Gun

Automaton foot soldiers such as Commissars and Troopers can call down a Dropship using a flare gun. Usually, the foot soldier who spots you first will call for backup. So, if you see an Automaton enemy about to fire a flare gun, kill it immediately!

Destroy the Dropship's Engine

If you fail to kill the Automaton wielding a flare gun, the next thing you can do is destroy one of the Dropship's engines before it drops off the group of Automaton enemies it is deploying.

Successfully destroying the Dropship will also kill the Automaton enemies it is carrying.

Use Weapons Effective Against Vehicles

Support Weapons such as the Expendable Anti-Tank and Recoilless Rifle can easily destroy a Dropship's engine with one shot. These weapons can already be unlocked in the early game!

Use Explosive Stratagems

Offensive Stratagems such as the Orbital Precision Strike can destroy a Dropship if you dropped it at the exact spot where the Dropship will stop to deploy some Automatons.

But, this is difficult to do since you basically have to call down a Orbital Precision Strike a few seconds before the Dropship actually arrives in the map!
