Baron Rivendare Best Talent: Chill of the Grave |
・A Tanky but fast Melee Leader that can take on Towers and groups of enemies ・Periodically summons Skeletons even at buildings you control, even when not on the field ・ Chill of the Grave summons Skeletal Mages that can cover its Flying weakness |
Tirion Fordring Best Talent: Divine Shield |
・A Tanky Melee Leader that can take on towers ・One of the few tanky healers in the game that can maintain a sustained push on towers and bosses ・ Divine Shield gives it invincibility for 5 seconds when health drops to 30% |
Rend Blackhand Best Talent: Scale and Steel |
・A powerful flying leader that becomes a tanky melee unit when its Drake dies, essentially having 2 lives ・Flying minis cost 1 less gold when Rend is in play ・ Scale and Steel grants it Armor on both its forms, essentially patching up its weakness |
These three leaders rank among the best in the game and are equally at home in both PVE and PVP. All three are great at siege and tanking enemies, and also boast abilities that support your minis on deck.

Old Murk-Eye Best Talent: Marathon of the Murlocs |
・ March of the Murlocs summons a Murloc Tidehunter for each gold spend on another mini ・ The best leader for squad-based decks focused on siege and zerg-rushing enemies ・ Marathon of the Murlocs gives you 10 seconds to deploy more minis to spawn more Murloc Tidehunters while the leader is in play |
Grommash Hellscream Best Talent: Bladestorm |
・ Grants Bloodlust to nearby minis, increasing their attack and movement speed ・Slow and tanky, but a great frontline unit to take on towers and bosses ・ Bladestorm grants it a strong AOE attack which can prevent it from getting overwhelmed by squads |
Cairne Bloodhoof Best Talent: Reincarnation |
・A Tanky Leader that boasts AOE attacks that can stun enemies ・ One of the best Leaders for pure Horde decks due to granting 20% Health boost with Earthen Might ・ Reincarnation resurrects it at 50% health when killed once per play, making it a great siege unit for taking on towers and leaders |
Although not as versatile as their S-Tier counterparts, these leaders are no slouch when paired with the right minis to support it and can comfortably take on both PVE and PVP opponents.

General Drakkisath Best Talent: Chromatic Scales |
・ A Tanky Leader wielding Elemental attacks that can easily overwhelm tanky units ・ The best leader for decks focused on dealing Elemental Damage thanks to its Banner of Flame Ability ・ Chromatic Scales grants nearby minis the Resistant trait, allowing you to push towers or bosses even with weaker minis |
Sneed Best Talent: Lead with Greed |
・ Sneed Before Greed Ability makes it the most gold-efficient Leader, granting 2 gold every time a Siege mini destroys a tower ・ Requires careful deck building, focusing on siege minis that can quickly destroy towers such as Goblin Sappers or Earth Elementals ・ Lead with Greed grants +2 additional Gold when Sneed Before Greed triggers, essentially giving you 4 gold when destroying a tower with Siege minis |
Sylvanas Windrunner Best Talent: Black Arrow |
・ Grants Undead and Horde minis 30% movement speed with Windrunner Warchief Ability ・Summons a Banshee when killed, which often possess the mini that killed her ・ High Gold Cost and susceptibility to squad minis mean she requires tanky units on the frontlines for survivability ・ Black Arrow pierces through enemies and deals elemental damage, allowing her to take on tanky melee units |
Leaders in B-Tier are strong but require a specific deck of minis to make their strategy work, which means you may have to wait a while before using them if they don't appear on your G.R.I.D..
A good example is General Drakkisath who, while strong and tanky, requires a healer mini like Frostwolf Shaman to sustain extended sieges and survive against squads.

Bloodmage Thalnos Best Talent: Drain Life |
・ Can easily become the strongest Leader in play thanks to Dark Ritual increasing his level by 1 for every Spell used ・ Requires a deck with more spells than minis to fully take advantage of his Dark Ritual Ability ・ Drain Life grants its self-healing and better survivability, allowing him to rely less on other minis for defense |
Maiev Shadowsong Best Talent: Enveloping Shadows |
・ The only Unbound Leader, allowing you to place her anywhere on the field ・Requires a deck witih many Unbound minis to take full advantage of its Master Assassin Ability ・ Enveloping Shadow stealths nearby allies, allowing you to grant Stealth on tank minis for tower and boss pushes |
Jaina Proudmoore Best Talent: Clearcasting |
・Arcane Brilliance Ability increases the level of your Spells by 3 while Jaina is in play, increasing the power of your offensive spells ・ Best used on a deck built to deal more damage with spells rather than minis ・ Clearcasting reduces the cost of spells by 1 when played after Jaina |
Hogger Best Talent: Ham Hock |
・ Relentless Ability increases his attack and movement speed by 35% for every time he is played, allowing it to become the fastest unit after several plays ・ Requires you to sacrifice him several times to get his attack and movement bonus, making him slightly inefficient ・ Ham Hock grants him +10% Health every time he's played, increasing his tankiness on top of his attack and movement speed |
C-Tier Leaders are often restricted to certain playstyles and deck builds. Although not necessarily weak, these leaders require high investment to unlock the best talents and may require rare minis for their strategies to work.
This restricts their overall usefulness, especially if you're just starting out and building your collection of troops.

Charlga Razorflank Best Talent: Cavernous Mists |
・Deals Percentage damage to a target's health, which means it can't killl minis, towers, or bosses on its own. ・Spirit Tangle is good on paper but is dependent on RNG and often just makes your inexpensive minis cost more ・ Cavernous Mists reduces her cost by 1, allowing you to deploy Charlga for 1 Gold cost |
Currently, only Charlga Razorflank is in our D-Tier and is not a good choice for either PVE or PVP. Charlga's Spirit Tangle is more debilitating to your deck rather than helpful, and will often cause you to pay for more gold for inexpensive minis rather than the opposite.
Charlga is also weak as a leader due to only dealing percentage damage. While this makes her slightly useful against bosses, it also means she can't kill minis on her own and requires support from other minis to actually reach the boss safely.
A leader's ease of use during both PVE and PVP, as well as their reliability as units in your deck are the main criteria for our Best Leader tier list.
Leaders such as Baron Rivendare and Tirion Fordring are not only simple to use, they can also fill different roles in your deck either as frontline attackers or support for your other minis.
Cost is also something we take into account when ranking leaders, but this doesn't necessarily mean that a leader should have a low gold cost to rank high. Rend Blackwell may have a high gold cost, but he's worth the gold since he can switch from flying to melee when he dismounts.
Team Synergy and how a leader affects the rest of the deck is equally important, with many leaders defining how you play certain minis in your deck and may even require specific strategies to successfully use.
