Choosing your first leader is one of the most important decisions you need to make early in the game.
Unlike regular Minis, Leaders have special abilities that greatly affect how each of your battles will turn out. It's important that you pick them wisely, so you can build your army around their strengths.
Here we handpicked three Leaders that we recommend you get as your first leader. The way they're played on the battlefield vary, so please choose one that suits your playstyle the most.
However, do remember that the options that you get for your first leader are random. There is a chance you might not get the option to choose the leaders we recommend. In which case, you can choose any leader that you think would align with your playstyle.
Having said this, here are the first leaders that we recommend choosing if they ever show up as an option!
Leader | Family | Gold Traits | Traits | ||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Rend Blackhand (6 Gold Cost) |

Blackrock | Flying, AoE | Dismounts, Elemental | |||||||||
Leader Ability | |||||||||||
Blacken the Skies - Your other Flying troops cost 1 less Gold while Rend is in play (but no less than 2). | |||||||||||
Talents | |||||||||||
Flaming Soul Cast Living Bomb upon dismounting, damaging nearby enemies. |
Scale and Steel Gain Resistant while flying and Armored while dismounted. |
Legionnaire Dismount when first taking damage. The Drake continues fighting. |
Get to know Rend Blackhand, one of the best leaders you can get in Warcraft Rumble:
Rend Blackhand is one of the best Leaders you can get in the game!
He starts off as a flying unit. He rides his dragon proudly around the battlefield as it breathes fire and deals massive AoE damage to multiple enemy units caught in its wake.
Unlike other flying units who die along with their winged partners, Rend Blackhand continues the fight even without his dragon. When his dragon dies, he dismounts and deals damage to enemies as a single-unit attacker.
Once dismounted, Rend Blackhand becomes incredibly tanky and charges into battle as a tanky, single-unit attacker that deals decent damage to enemies. It will take a while for him to go down but he won't do it without dealing damage to enemies in his way.
His Leader Ability, Blacken the Skies, lowers the Gold cost of every flying troop in your army by 1. With this, you can easily overwhelm enemies. Just try to stay clear from enemy units that can take down your flying troops!
When his Dragon dies, Rend himself enters the battlefield albeit him being slow. This can make it hard for him to reach enemies from far away.
This absolute unit of a Mini comes at a great price. To spawn Rend Blackhand, you need to spend 6 Gold. Because of this, you'll need to manage your Gold well and have miners grab extra Gold for you.
While Rend himself can deal damage on his own, it's still worth it to keep his dragon alive since it can deal much more damage to enemies compared to Rend Blackhand.
We recommend spawning a tank first, followed closely by Rend Blackhand, so that there's a unit that can tank incoming enemy damage while Rend Blackhand and his dragon can deal massive AoE damage to multiple enemies safely from behind.
Once he's dismounted, you can spawn damage dealers behind him to help deal damage to enemies.
Leader | Family | Gold Traits | Traits | ||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Tirion Fordring (4 Gold Cost) |
|||||||||||
Alliance | Melee, One-Target | Tank, Armored, Healer | |||||||||
Leader Ability | |||||||||||
Holy Light - Heals all nearby friendly units. | |||||||||||
Talents | |||||||||||
Divine Shield Gain a magical shield at 30% health, absorbing all damage for 5 seconds. |
Consecrate Regularly consecrate the ground, Damaging enemies within. |
By The Light Heal the primary target for twice as much. |
Get to know Tirion Fordring, the best Alliance Leader in Warcraft Rumble:
Tirion Fordring is a great choice for your first leader mainly because of his ability to heal all nearby allies and himself when in the battlefield.
The combination of his ability to heal nearby allies and himself, and his innate tanky qualities means he can sustain your troops in the battlefield for quite a while. Pair him with Footmen and you'll have a solid front line that can tank tons of damage.
Unlock his Talent Divine Shield and you'll have an absolute tank of a unit that will last long in the battlefield.
However, his combo with Footmen comes at a great cost. Literally! It costs a total of 9 Gold to spawn both of these Minis.
Tirion and his Footmen do not deal a lot of damage to enemies and they have no way of fighting flying units by themselves.
Because of this, you need to have a decent damage dealer who can also deal with flying units at the back line to deal damage to enemies while Tirion and his Footmen tank the incoming damage.
This doesn't mean that you shouldn't use him though. He's still a valuable Leader when paired with the right troops. You can mitigate the total gold cost of his combo with his Footmen by having miners mine gold from the battlefield.
In conclusion, Tirion Fordring is a great first leader to have because of his unique ability to heal allies. The key to winning when using Tirion is your troops' placement and the way you manage your gold. Always have his Footmen on the front line, followed closely by Tirion himself so he can heal them. Then, have a damage dealer that can attack flying units behind Tirion so it can deal damage to enemies while your tanks take all the incoming damage. Finally, make sure to utilize your miners to help with Gold management.
Leader | Family | Gold Traits | Traits | ||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Baron Rivendare (4 Gold Cost) |
|||||||||||
Undead | Melee, One-Target | Tank, Armored, Elemental, Fast | |||||||||
Leader Ability | |||||||||||
Army of the Dead - Rivendare periodically summons Skeletons at buildings you control. | |||||||||||
Talents | |||||||||||
Death Pact Periodically sacrifice a nearby Skeleton to be Healed |
Skeletal Frenzy Nearby allied Skeletons gain Bloodlust |
Chill Of The Grave Summon Skeletal Mages instead of Warriors |
Check out Baron Rivendare, the Undead Leader in Warcraft Rumble:
Baron Rivendare's strength is in his ability - Army of the Dead. This allows him to spawn Skeletons on all of your bases passively. You don't need to have him on the battlefield for his ability to activate. He can spawn Skeletons even if he's just in your deck!
This makes him a formidable opponent who can push easily without spending a single gold!
One drawback of using Baron Rivendare is his weakness to flying units. If you spawn him in the battlefield, make sure you back him up with other troops that can deal with flying enemies!
When using Baron Rivendare, you need to prioritize getting map control. Transform all towers and stones on the map to your base, so your army of the undead can spawn all over the map. Doing so gives you more pushing power. You'll even have troops defending your bases if the enemies get to them!
We also recommend getting the Talent Chill of the Grave first, so that you can spawn long-range mages with higher damage output compared to the basic Skeletons. These mages can also help keep Baron Rivendare safe from flying units.
