How to Beat G1 Michigan

G1 Michigan Boss Recommended Build

For the G1 Michigan battle, the laser handgun VP-66LH is recommended. G1 Michigan is not fast enough to dodge laser handgun attacks, so you'll be able to damage him continuously.

Additionally, it has a high total ammo count, making it suitable for dealing with the minor enemies that will be around him during the battle.

To make the G1 Michigan battle easier, it's essential to perform OS tuning. Prioritize control and damage tuning options so you can take him and surrounding enemies more easily. If you have OST chips to spare, consider making your repair kits more effective and invest in Dynamic Deflection Control Tuning.

You don't need to clear the Intercept the Redguns mission on the first playthrough as part of the main story. If you're having trouble finishing it the first time around, just skip it and choose an easier mission to finish.

Use Target Assist To Keep Track of the Enemy

If you get a Soft Lock on the boss and press R3, you will trigger Hard Lock or Target Assist. This makes combat easier because there is no need to follow the enemy with the camera controls. However, if the enemy goes off-screen with the camera, the lock-on will be temporarily disengaged, so be sure to not fiddle with the camera controls too much during combat.

Practice G1 Michigan Battle in the Arena

G1 Michigan appears in the arena, so you can use this opportunity to practice fighting him, learn his attack patterns, and see if your equipment will hold up against him.

It's Recommended to Eliminate Other Enemies First

For the Intercept the Redguns mission, it's recommended to eliminate other enemies first and then engage in a one-on-one battle with G1 Michigan. Utilize Assault Boost to move around and prioritize taking out the lesser enemies first before focusing on Michigan.

Change Altitude While Maneuvering to Avoid Attacks

G1 Michigan uses a Gatling gun, which will make it hard to dodge his attacks if you're on the ground. While in the air, fly above G1 Michigan and use Quick Boost to evade his missiles and grenade shells. Utilize obstacles and differences in elevation to break the Gatling's line of fire.

Additionally, it's easier to land attacks immediately after G1 Michigan fires off his Songbirds or uses his Gatling guns. Hit him with your own grenade cannons to stagger him.

Beware of Blast Attacks After Close Combat

Michigan has a move where he does a close-range attack before doing a blast attack in the direction he's facing. Pay attention to where you dodge after evading his close-range attack.

Continuously Damage G1 Michigan with Rapid Laser Shots

The laser handgun will be your primary damage dealer vs. G1 Michigan, so keep firing while maintaining a healthy distance from him. Don't use the laser handgun's charged shots since they're easy for G1 Michigan to dodge, so stick with normal attacks.

Avoid Using Recoil-Prone Weapons Unnecessarily

G1 Michigan frequently fires missiles and grenade cannons, so use recoil-prone weapons like Songbirds only in specific situations such as when G1 Michigan is staggered, in situations where you can maintain distance or are above your opponent, or during openings after G1 Michigan's attacks. Avoid overcommitting.
