Dual Shotguns Recommended

Shotgun

Both Hawkins and Pater are easy to stagger, so it's recommended to use dual shotguns.

Dual Gatling Guns Also Recommended

Gatling

Using dual Gatling guns is also recommended for the Hawkins and Pater battle. The only drawback is that you'll have to stand still to fire Gatling guns, so you might want to use tank treads for your AC's legs so you can fire on the move.

V. V Hawkins and V. VIII Pater Boss Strategy

Use Target Assist To Keep Track of the Enemy

If you get a Soft Lock on the boss and press R3, you will trigger Hard Lock or Target Assist. This makes combat easier because there is no need to follow the enemy with the camera controls. However, if the enemy goes off-screen with the camera, the lock-on will be temporarily disengaged, so be sure to not fiddle with the camera controls too much during combat.

Starting the Ambush

The mission is an ambush operation, so at the beginning, you'll be catching Hawkins and Pater by surprise. You can either hit them with long-range weapons like the Songbirds grenade cannons or the Stun Needle Launcher or close in immediately, so the approach is up to you.

Always Engage Them in Close-Quarters Combat

If you want to close in on Hawkins and Pater immediately, jump in between them and start attacking. Since the ambush site is a narrow space, you can quickly attack an enemy after catching them off-guard. Try luring one of them away from the other before destroying them with your shotguns or Gatling guns.

Focus on Defeating One Vesper at a Time

The battle against Hawkins and Pater involves facing both of them simultaneously, but you'll have help in the form of Middle Flatwell, the de facto leader of the Rubicon Liberation Front. He'll keep the other Vesper busy while you take care of another one. Don't take too long though, because Middle Flatwell will retreat when he receives enough damage. This will leave you in a 2 vs. 1 situation, so act quickly.
