Remember: You Can Always Change Your Build From the Retry Screen

If a certain build isn't working out for you, you can always change it through the ASSEMBLY button on the retry screen. If you're facing Balteus for the first time, we recommend equipping weapons that will get you through the Attack the Watchpoint mission first, then changing your build once you are defeated.

V. II Snail (Arquebus Balteus) Boss Recommended Build

Easier to Avoid Attacks and Secure Safe High Ground

Since V. II Snail (Arquebus Balteus) uses wide-ranging attacks, use leg parts with agile inverse joints to easily avoid its attacks and secure safe high ground.

Recommended Weapons: Dual Shotguns and Pulse Guns

Shotgun Pulse Gun

Just like the previous Balteus model, Snail (Arquebus Balteus) deploys Pulse Armor. As usual, Pulse Guns are effective against Pulse Armor, so make sure to bring them along. Additionally, it's important to have a powerful shotgun to use once the Pulse Armor has been stripped off. You'll need the OS upgrade Weapon Bays to be able to bring along an additional arm weapon on your shoulder.

How to Defeat Snail

Use Target Assist To Keep Track of the Enemy

If you get a Soft Lock on the boss and press R3, you will trigger Hard Lock or Target Assist. This makes combat easier because there is no need to follow the enemy with the camera controls. However, if the enemy goes off-screen with the camera, the lock-on will be temporarily disengaged, so be sure to not fiddle with the camera controls too much during combat.

Stick Close to Get Above It

Just like in your first brush with Balteus, it's relatively safe to stay directly above or below V. II Snail. However, there are no clear openings to approach him, so gradually get closer while avoiding his attacks.

Watch Out for the Dangerous Forward Pulse Gun Swipe

V. II Snail has a dangerous attack where he raises its Pulse Gun in front and sweeps it open. Due to its wide range, make sure to ascend to avoid it.

Quick Boost Sideways to Avoid the Thick Beam Attack

V. II Snail also performs a dangerous attack where he fires a thick beam while moving rapidly with his boosters. Learn the timing of his shots and use quick boosting to evade them. Note that V. II Snail may use this attack a second time so get ready to dodge more if necessary.

It Unleashes a Major Attack at About 50% HP

After Attacking with Pulse Armor, It Continuously Sweeps the Area with Beams

  1. Pass beneath V. II Snail
  2. Quick boost left
  3. Ascend to avoid attack
  4. Quick boost right
  5. Ascend and quick boost to his front-left

It's impossible to avoid V. II Snail's attacks with leg parts other than lightweight reverse-jointed ones

When Snail's HP reaches about 50%, it will redeploy its Pulse Armor and launch a sweeping beam attack that continues for a while. This sweeping attack has strong homing capabilities, so focus on evading them instead of attacking V. II Snail.
