How to Beat Handler Walter

Handler Walter Boss Recommended Build

Shotguns Offer a Balanced and User-Friendly Option

If you stand still during your battle with Walter, it's easy to get torn to shreds by his attacks. That's why we recommend you use shotguns like the Zimmerman so you can damage him while on the move.

Ensure You Can Perform Quick Boosts Continuously

Since Walter uses attacks that relentlessly track you for a long time, it's a good idea to set up your AC so you can perform continuous quick boosts. This means getting a booster that doesn't consume that much EN during quick boosts.

Shed AC Weight To Increase Your Quick Boost Interval

To shorten the interval between quick boosts, make sure to build your AC with light parts to decrease its weight. Having low weight and using a booster with low reload time will ensure you can quick boost as fast as possible to avoid Walter's attacks.

Handler Walter Boss Strategy

Use Target Assist To Keep Track of the Enemy

If you get a Soft Lock on the boss and press R3, you will trigger Hard Lock or Target Assist. This makes combat easier because there is no need to follow the enemy with the camera controls. However, if the enemy goes off-screen with the camera, the lock-on will be temporarily disengaged, so be sure to not fiddle with the camera controls too much during combat.

Use Quick Boosts to Avoid Laser Attacks

Walter frequently fires lasers. They'll hit you if you move normally, so use moderate sideways quick boosts to avoid most of them and minimize damage.

Watch Out for Walter's Sniping Attacks

Walter often uses dangerous attacks that snipe you when you get on the ground. So when you're about to land, use quick boost at the last minute.

Pay Attention to Walter's Beam Attacks

Right-hand weapon glowing

When the barrel of the weapon in Walter's right hand starts glowing red, it's a sign that he's prepared for a long-duration beam emission attack. There's a chance he'll follow up with another dangerous attack, so make sure you won't run out of EN completely and prepare to dodge.

Once the Beam Attack Begins, Use Quick Boost Continuously

If you're caught in the emission attack, rapidly perform sideways quick boosts. Using weapons that don't stop your movement during this time (like shotguns) might force Walter to interrupt the attack and dodge your attacks instead.

Beware of Walter's Sweeping Beam Attack

Walter also uses a dangerous attack where he emits a beam from his left-hand weapon and sweeps it across the field. This attack will track you just until it begins. If you keep moving in just one direction either by flying or quick boosting, you'll get hit.

Therefore, when you see him preparing this attack, stop for a moment, then use your quick boost once it begins. Walter is vulnerable during this attack, so hit him with all you've got.

Additionally, there's a high chance that Walter's right-hand weapon will complete its charge during this attack. Be careful not to get staggered by his left-hand attack, because he'll use that right hand to damage you afterward.
