Should You Go to the Highlands or Swamp First

You should go to Bloodblight Swamp first so you can gather Snapdragon to create stronger Healing Potions in RuneScape Dragonwilds. Learn if you should go to the Stormtouched Highlands or Bloodblight Swamp first here.

Should You Go to the Highlands or Swamp First?

Head to Bloodblight Swamp First

Obtainable Resources
Snapdragon
Blightwood
Silver Ore
Sapphire (from Silver Ore Deposits)
Gold Ore
Swamp Weed

Although both are endgame areas, Bloodblight Swamp is the only location where you can harvest Snapdragon from which is used to create Healing Potions that offer more healing than their weak counterparts.

The ability to stock up on stronger healing potions will make traversing the Stormtouched Highlands easier, as well as take on some of the more difficult Vaults in the game.

Requires Weak Antipoison Potions

Potion Recipe
Antipoison Potion Harralander x1
Bittercap Mushroom x1
Clay Vessel x1

You'll need to craft a healthy supply of Weak Antipoison Potions to safely traverse the Bloodblight Swamp, and all of the materials needed to craft these are found in the Whispering Swamp.

To make clay vessel, you'll first need to collect Clay and make unfired Clay Vessels in a Pottery Wheel and then fire them up in a Kiln. Finally, you'll need to combine all of the ingredients together using a Brewing Cauldron to create the Antipoison Potion.

Bloodblight Swamp Has Weaker Enemies

Bloodblight Swamp has weaker enemies at Level 3 compared to Stormtouched Highlands where all enemies are Level 4.

The strongest enemy in Bloodblight Swamp is a Level 4 Abyssal Demon that you can easily safespot by heading up a high surface and attacking it with arrows or magic. Defeating it allows you to craft the Abyssal Whip which is currently the strongest one-handed weapon in the game.

Has Resources to Craft Stronger Mage Equipment

Mage Equipment
Bloodblight Swamp also has resources used to craft stronger mage gear such as the Dark Mage Armor Set.

Notably, it's possible to get all the necessary crafting materials for the Staff of Light from the Bloodblight Swamp which is currently the strongest staff in the game.

Scout the Highlands for Iron Ore

Alternatively, you can scout the highlands for Iron Ore deposits without dying and place a Lodestone nearby so that you can simply teleport close to them without having to travel all the way to the highlands from your camp.

Iron Ore can be smelted into Iron Bars that are used to create Tier 4 Gear or Masterwork Weapons and Armor which are among the strongest gear you can obtain in the game currently.
