How to Get Tier 3 Gear

How to Unlock and Craft Tier 3 Gear
1. Craft a Bone Pickaxe
The Bone Pickaxe is a piece of Tier 2 Gear which you can craft as early as Bramblemead Valley. This will be needed to mine the Bronze Ore and Tin Ore Nodes found in the Fractured Plains region. It requires 8 Animal Bone, 6 Ash Logs, and 4 Leather to craft.
2. Head to Fractured Plains
Fractured Plains is the first Tier 3 difficulty area in the game, found north of the Whispering Swamp. It's recommended to proceed the main quest past completing the Investigate the blue-flame door in the swamp step before proceeding! The enemies in Fractured Peaks are a big step up and you're likely to leave a corpse behind if you venture here too early.
When heading to Fractured Plains, be sure to bring a Vault Core, 32 Stones, and 20 Rune Essence along with you, so that you can drop a Lodestone and Fast Travel back to safety. If you already used all of your Vault Cores, remember that Vault Cores respawn after some time, so you can return to a Vault you already completed to grab 2 more!
3. Search for Copper and Tin Nodes
The map above shows a few useful and relatively safe locations to mine Copper and Tin near the entrance to Fractured Plains. They are found relatively abundantly throughout the region, especially along rock walls, so search the darker areas of the map which indicate rocky cliffs and you'll often find Nodes alongside.
Note that Tin is slightly rarer than Copper, so be sure to grab any Tin you find to offset the difference.

The costs for your gear will vary depending on which set you go with, but we recommend crafting the Bronze equipment which costs more Bronze but grants the Melee combat set bonuses, and using a 1-handed weapon with a shield for faster attacks and more effective blocking.
4. Build a Kiln and a Furnace
To make use of your Copper and Tin Ore, you'll need a Kiln to make Charcoal and a Furnace to smelt the Ore into Bronze Bars. The Kiln and Furnace are easy enough to craft, only requiring Clay and Vault Shards as somewhat rare base materials.
5. Build a Smithing Forge and a Tanner's Kit
Tier 3 Gear can only be crafted using a Smithing Forge, which requires 6 Bronze Bars. Additionally, you'll need 6 more Bronze Bars to build the Tanner's Kit upgrade for the Tannery in order to craft Hard Leather, which most of the gear requires. Hard Leather can be crafted using Leather and Adhesive at the upgraded Tannery.
6. Craft Your Tier 3 Gear
It's time to get fully decked out! Since Fractured Plains is a significant step up in difficulty, it's best to go ahead and make a full set of Tier 3 Gear with 3 Armor pieces, a Melee Weapon, and a Shield.
After that, you can craft the Bronze Logging Axe and chop down some Oak Trees to craft an Oak Longbow. You won't really need the Bronze Pickaxe until the next region, so save your precious Bronze Bars for your gear!
