Defeat the Vault Guardians
Make your way through the lower corridors and turn right at the end of the path until you reach a large open area with a couple of Vault Guardians.
Once all enemies are defeated, head to the left corridor and through a flame trap to proceed to the next area.
Avoid the Spike Traps
The next area is a large room with spike traps and a small safe spot in the middle. Pay attention to the trap's pattern and make your way to the center. You can also use the Windstep spell but take care to avoid hitting the ceiling as it will cause you to drop quickly to the floor and into the traps.
Defeat the Vault Guardian Sentinels
Proceed to the next room where you'll encounter two patrolling Vault Guardian Sentinels. The two sentinels tend to stay together and this makes it a bit hard to fight in melee, so we recommend picking them off from a distance and use the pillars to hide from their ranged attacks.
Once all enemies are defeated, loot the Vault Core from the nearby pedestal before proceeding to the next room.
Use Windstep to Reach a Hidden Alcove
There's a hidden alcove in this area that you can reach with the Windstep spell that has a Vault Core and a treasure chest. Stand on the nearby ruined pillar and use the spell to reach the alcove.
When you're ready, pull the lever in this room to unlock the gate and head into the next room with another lever. This unlocks the boss room near the entrance of the vault.
Defeat the Vault Guardian Overlord
The Vault Guardian mostly attacks with melee and will rush at you as soon as you hit it. We recommend kiting it from a distance first with ranged or magic and circling around it when it does its ground slam attack.
Once defeated, grab the Vault Core from the pedestal and the nearby treasure chest for some loot.

The South Temple Woods Vault houses three Vault Cores. You can use these to build a Smithing Anvil or to craft Masterwork Weapons.
