During the Pokemon Presents livestream on February 27, the Mega Evolution Symbol briefly appeared at the end of the trailer, hinting at its return in the upcoming game.

Since it is a Legends Game based on the Kalos Region, we will likely see a Mega Evolution mechanic, likely based on how the mechanic was back in Pokemon X and Y.

Among the Pokemon games on the Nintendo Switch, Mega Evolution is only present in the Let's Go! games. The feature has been absent in Pokemon Sword and Shield, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, as well as Pokemon Legends Arceus.

Sword and Shield introduced the Dynamax and Gigantamax mechanics, while Scarlet and Violet had Terastallization. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were faithful remakes of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, which are from Generation IV, before Mega Evolution was introduced. Legends Arceus had a different style of gameplay and no hold items, making Mega Evolutions unfeasible.

During battle, triggering a Pokemon's Mega Evolution will temporarily buff their base stats and change their Ability. Only one Pokemon in your party can Mega Evolve once in each battle, and the effect stays until it faints.

There are 48 Mega Evolution forms that have been made available throughout different games. Most Mega Evolutions require a Mega Stone to be held by the Pokemon while the trainer has a Key Stone that is obtained by venturing through the story.
