What is Pokemon Legends?

A Separate Pokemon Game Series

Pokemon Legends is a game series separate from the mainline game series. They are usually reimaginations of past generations with the main focus on the Legendary Pokemon of that generation.

For example, though Pokemon Legends: Z-A came after Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, it is not considered Generation 10. It's more of a standalone game based on Lumiose City in Kalos, the main region of Generation 6.

Since the series is titled Pokemon Legends, the game usually revolves around the Legendary Pokemon of the region or generation. Pokemon Legends: Arceus for example is based on the Generation 4 region of Sinnoh with the main Legendary Pokemon Arceus being central in the story.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A will most likely focus on Zygarde considering the logo of the game bears its hexagonal patterns. The addition of -A remains a mystery until now but we are speculating that it is an anagram of the name of the previous king of Kalos, AZ, who is a legend in his own right.

Is AZ in Pokemon Legends Z-A?

Usually Has Unique Mechanics

Pokemon Legends usually brings unique mechanics to the table that are completely different from the usual formula of mainline Pokemon games.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus ushered in the first truly open-world mechanic in Pokemon. It also introduced Alpha Pokemon which are bigger and stronger versions of Pokemon!

In Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it has been confirmed that the game will be solely set in the city of Lumiose and nowhere else. This is a first in the franchise as games usually revolve around the Trainer traveling from city to city. The game also welcomes in the return of Mega Evolutions after a very long wait.
