Pokemon Legends games are different from the main series titles and will continue to stand apart with Pokemon Legends: Z-A. See the differences between the Legends format and the traditional Pokemon games here.
List of Contents

Pokemon Legends is a game series separate from the mainline game series. They are usually reimaginations of past generations with the main focus on the Legendary Pokemon of that generation.
For example, though Pokemon Legends: Z-A came after Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, it is not considered Generation 10. It's more of a standalone game based on Lumiose City in Kalos, the main region of Generation 6.

Legends games also feature a mix of starters from different regions. For Legends: Z-A, Tepig from Unova and Totodile and Chikorita from Johto will serve as the starters, continuing the trend from Legends: Arceus, where starters were selected from Alola, Johto, and Unova.

Since the series is titled Pokemon Legends, the game usually revolves around the Legendary Pokemon of the region or generation. Pokemon Legends: Arceus for example is based on the Generation 4 region of Sinnoh with Arceus being central in the story.
For Legends: Z-A, Zygarde is most likely the central focus, as the game's logo is clearly designed around it. Aside from that, AZ may also play a major role in the story, as he's already confirmed to return along with his Eternal Flower Floette.

Like in Legends: Arceus, Legends: Z-A brings back features that weren’t present in the main series, such as the return of Alpha Pokemon. These Pokémon are larger than usual, have glowing red eyes, and are generally more difficult to catch compared to regular Pokémon.
Features that are unique to Legends: Z-A so far include the new Battle System, which allows you freely control your Pokemon’s position; the Battle Club, where you can participate in four-way battles against other trainers; and Z-A Royale, a rank-based system available at night in Lumiose City.

Other than the new and exclusive features, Legends: Z-A also revisits some in-game mechanics that were introduced in the base game. For example, Mega Evolutions are set to return in Legends: Z-A, with newly revealed Mega forms for existing Pokemon such as Dragonite, Hawlucha, Victreebel, and Malamar.
Small features such as Furfrou customization will also return, allowing you to personalize your Furfrou to match your preferences.

So far there are only two games in the Pokemon Legends series: Pokemon Legends: Arceus & Pokemon Legends: Z-A. There is a huge chance that this does not stop here and we're bound to get more Legends games in the future!
