Morax Lore Information

The Current Geo Archon

Oldest among the Seven, Morax is the God of Geo and is the current Geo Archon overseeing the nation of Liyue.

He's also one of the two remaining original Archons who fought during the Cataclysm around 500 ago, alongside Venti.

Participated in the Archon Wars

It wasn't revealed yet whether or not participating and "winning" the Archon Wars will guarantee a god a divine seat in Celestia, but whatever the reason may be, it's brought a warring period that helped shaped Teyvat today—and Liyue, in particular.

The current terrain and culture of Liyue would have been completely different if not for the warring gods period, that is the Archon Wars. Within the historical and archaeological records, it's safe to assume Morax's had fought plenty of battles during this era.

Morax vs. the Overlord of the Vortex

The reason for the hostilty that Osial has reserved toward the then-God of Geo is unknown, but according to the Monolith Fragment, that "...there was a certain time when the inhabitans of this land were terrorized by waves as tall as mountains...".

It could then be assumed, that Osial tormented the people of Liyue, causing them to heed the help of their revered god, Morax. Or perhaps it's something deeply rooted with the divine seats in Celestia.

Irrespective of the actual reason, Osial and Morax went out against each other, only for the Overlord of the Vortex to be pinned down by a spear carved from a stone, or commonly known now as the Vortex Vanquisher.

Osial is the same monster reawakened by Childe during the Archon Quest, Act 1: Chapter 3, " A New Star Approaches" and is also husband to the Avenger of the Vortex, Beisht seen during the Interlude Chapter: Act 1.

Morax vs. The Chi

The Chi, according to the elder in Qingce Village, in the account of Roald from the "Diary of Roald the Adventurer". is a sea serpent defeated by the God of Geo.

It was then believed that from the serpent's corpse, the terraces of Mt. Qingce was born but it was eventually refuted by Morax himself during the Fleeting Colors in Flight Event

The Chi, however, cannot be completely eradicated and thusly Morax taught the villagers of Qingce how to suppress its power, likely with the use of statues and amber.

Also, another scattered remnant of the Chi was likely defeated by the Skipper, an infamous greatsword user from a thousand years ago. It was believed that the Serpent's Spine is a derivative of the defeated Chi, and is likely forged by or for the Skipper himself.

Founder of the Guili Assembly

Before Liyue Harbor came to be, and flourished, civilization was likely cradled in Mt. Tianheng, after Morax raised it by lowering the bellowing tides pestered by sea monsters.

Soon after, Guizhong, the god of dust, led her people on the Northern area of Mt. Tianheng, where they settled down to cultivate the soil. In awe by her work, Guizhong and Morax established Guili Assembly, both joining a syllable of their monikers.

With the Adepti, Morax, and Guizhong, the Guili Assembly prospered. The citizens of the Guili Assembly took mining as their main source of livelihood, until the Archon War kicked off and changed everything.

The Establishment of Liyue Harbor

Due to the aftermath of the Archon Wars and the chaos it brought upon the land, the citizens of Northern Mt. Tianheng didn't have any choice but to flee down south.

Led by Morax and the surviving adepti, Liyue Harbor thrived, but it wasn't all daisies and sunflowers, especially at first. Because of the cataclysmic effect of the Archon Wars, particularly the curse it left on the surface of Teyvat, Liyue was plague-ridden.

It was when the god of stove, Marchosius—well-loved and revered by Liyue—sacrificed himself to tip the scales and save everyone from the brink of desecration.

The Sealed Lord of Vishaps

Most ancient among the Vishaps, Azhdaha was friend to Morax long before the Archon Wars begun. Their friendship was a sad tale to tell—one caused by the Erosion and a longing of a friend who violated the God of Geo's contracts.

When Azhdaha befell on the effects of Erosion, the Lord of Vishaps forgot his contract with the God of Geo. He then started to attack humans, which is the basis of his violation of his contract with Morax.

To mitigate his Erosion, Morax shared some of his powers to Azhdaha but it was insufficient to stop his total loss of memory. The demented Vishap thought he was betrayed by his friend, Morax.

Consultant to Wangsheng Funeral Parlor

Although there are only a handful of people aware of Morax's present day identity, his current persona, Zhongli, is still famed throughout the entirety of Liyue.

Known as the Consultant to Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, many seek Zhongli's wisdom—a deed most apt for the oldest Archon. How he managed to put himself among those in Wangsheng is presently unknown, but it's highly likely that his great wisdom contributed a lot.

The Greatest Contract: Mora

Using his Gnosis, the greatest catalyst Mora is minted in the Golden House. Mora represents the very ideal of the Geo Archon, which is otherwise known by his moniker, God of Contracts.

During the Archon Quest: Chapter 1, Act 3, he ceded his Gnosis to the Harbinger Signora, mentioning that it's the contract that ends all contract. This act of surrender suggests that Mora is no longer being minted in the Golden House, but the currency is still widely used throughout Teyvat.

Keqing	About Keqing She is the most impious of the Qixing - but I actually find the conviction of such people quite endearing. The only reason I was able to consider taking a step back from such overarching management of Liyue was because there are people like her. People who speak up when they believe themselves to be right, and then go and do something decisive about it.
Nahida	About Buer As well as ruling over all of Sumeru, the God of Wisdom, Buer, has a duty to guard Irminsul. Only one who possesses great wisdom could hope to shoulder these Responsibilities. All life in Teyvat owes her gratitude for saving Irminsul.
Ningguang	About Ningguang Despite the multitude of affairs that she deals with in a day, Ningguang always continues to press on. A rare gem indeed. I'm reminded of the time that she used to walk barefoot from Yaoguang Shoal to the south wharf, trying to sell her wares as she went. Time is cruel to humans.
Raiden	About Baal Time tempers all volition. Yet she would give up everyone for her beliefs. Perhaps it is for this very reason that she has come to where she stands today... Should the chance come by me, I too would like to learn of the Eternity for which she so earnestly endeavors.

Neuvillette	About Geo Archon Nothing will stop me from rendering judgment on each of The Seven. As the Archon who won the Authority of Geo, Deus Auri must be called to trial. If one does not wish to see us on opposite sides of a conflict, they need not worry, for I intend to stay in Fontaine for the foreseeable future, which could well mean another four hundred years. As another point of consolation, even when the trial eventually takes place, it is still not a given that the judgment will lead to a physical confrontation.
Ningguang	Zhongli... of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. He's very versed in a great deal of affairs. Although... such excellent pawns are of no use to me until I know their weaknesses.
Shenhe	That gentleman claims to be a mortal, yet is very familiar with my master, who is an adeptus. Master once said: "If you see him drinking on a stone stool in front of my abode, do not disturb him. Let him sit quietly for a while." And that's precisely what I did.
Tartaglia	Pondering: There's far more to that man than meets the eye. As for the extent of his power... lots to look forward to, I think. Challenge: Tell me how has Mr. Zhongli been lately? Am I likely to get blown away?
Xiangling	I've come across a lot of fussy eaters, but Mr. Zhongli is very particular and has no problem getting straight to what he has to say. The first time I served him salt and pepper tofu, he took just one bite, and then proceeded to say: "It would be better to try sea salt extracted from the shallow seas of Guyun Stone Forest, because it would bring a fresh sense of depth to the tofu." I tried it and the taste was just so different! He's just amazing, don't you think!?
Xianyun	When Rex Lapis first heard of one's plan to take up residence in Liyue Harbor, he recited a long and detailed list of considerations for the furnishing and adornment of a home. Natural lighting, ventilation, bespoke woodwork, procuring porcelain, placement of plants and flowers... One's mind felt ready to explode from the deluge of information. Do all facets of life in the human world take so much effort?
Xiao	Can I ask... Zhongli — what does he do with his days? Huh? Birds, antiques, flowers... Hmm... What deeper meaning do they hold?
Xingqiu	My father and brother entertained that gentleman as a guest once. From the way they were acting, he must be a very high-profile figure indeed. I also heard that he directs funerals for the adepti, so he must surely have great depth to his character. We should do some digging and see what we can find out about him!
Xinyan	There was this one fellow who invited me to perform at his place, back when there weren't many who would give my music the time of day. I was touched, let me tell you what. Like, hey, someone gets it! I agreed right away... But when I got there, I found out that he was the consultant at the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. What a weird guy. I mean, how was that appropriate?
Yanfei	Mr. Zhongli has so much in-depth knowledge on so many topics, he's like a walking library, you know what I mean? He's a total savant, though he never flaunts it. I could tell just by looking at him. People like him rarely shy away from taking on complex problems alone, so in my estimation he's certainly not a potential client. And yet, somehow, I can't help but think I know him from somewhere, it's hard to describe the feeling... I asked my father about it, and he just said something to the effect of he didn't know either, though he seemed a little evasive. It was so strange... Anyway, makes me wonder if my father is hiding something from me. Hmph, alright then – if he won't tell me what's going on, I'll just have to find out for myself...
Yun Jin	The customs of the opera are very particular, and are passed down from generation to generation. Sometimes I find that I only know the hows but not the whys behind what we do. But when speaking with Zhongli, it is abundantly evident that he knows the origins behind almost everything. Who wouldn't be delighted to have such a connoisseur in their audience?
