Suikoden 2 HD Remaster takes about 30 to 45 hours of playing to get the best ending possible, which means recruiting every single recruitable character in the game.
Multiple Endings Depending on Choices
The game also features four different endings which depend on your choices throughout the story and if you've recruited all 108 companions before the final battle. If you want to experience all of them, you'll have to load an earlier save file or start a new playthrough.
| Ending | Conditions |
|---|---|
| Bad Ending | During the war in Tinto, agree to Nanami’s proposal to escape from the war leading to an early ending. |
| Standard Ending | After the final boss, accept the proposal in the Great Hall to continue leading the army. |
| Alternate Ending | Reject the proposal in the Great Hall, then head to Tenzan Pass and defeat Jowy in a duel twice. |
| Best Ending | Recruit all 108 characters before the battle of Rockaxe. Respond to Nanami quickly when she intervenes at Rockaxe Castle. Make sure Nanami has high defense values from wearing armor. Refuse to fight Jowy at Tenzan Pass and only defend during the duel with him. Reject the rune Jowy offers to you. |
No Post-Game Content After Ending
Suikoden 2 HD Remaster does not offer any post-game content after you reach an ending. Use multiple save slots in case you want to go back to something or try out different endings.

Recruiting all characters in Suikoden 2 will take about 40 hours of playtime. You'll also need to be aware of when certain characters become available to recruit and the conditions for recruiting them.

There are some recruitable characters you may miss while playing through the game. Check everything you can do before continuing with the story to avoid missing out on some important recruits.

Characters Can Permanently Die
Most of the characters that can be recruited have a chance to permanently die from participating in Army Battles. Make sure to save often before going into any army battle to prevent this.
Dead Characters Will Prevent Best Ending
Having one of your characters dying from army battles will prevent you from achieving the Best Ending. You'll need to have all 108 characters alive until the end.
