Runes are mainly obtained as drops from enemies. When you successfully take down certain enemies, there's a slight chance you can obtain a rune!

Add to Equipment to Gain Passives

How to Attach Runes

Runes can be attached to your weapon and armor pieces to add passive buffs or abilities when they're equipped. Depending on a rune's type, it can only be attached to a corresponding type of equipment.

To add runes to your weapons and armor, you must go to the Runemaker and pay some Gold to attach them to a rune slot. The more your equipment has been enhanced, the more rune slots it will have. This will allow you to combine different rune effects on a piece!

Runes Can Have Secondary Traits

Weapon Lethality, Critical Chance, Critical Damage, Attack Speed, Fracture
Armor Vitality, Endurance, Phase, Stride, Surge, Swiftness
Pickaxe Swift Mining, Mine Power, Luck, Yield

Apart from the fixed main trait that each rune has, there's a random chance that the runes you obtain will come with secondary traits. The percentages of the boosts gained are also randomized, so you may need to farm enemies to get stronger runes.

The possible secondary traits runes can have are fixed per rune type. However, Pickaxe Runes don't have a fixed main trait, so they're a special case that will result in different combinations of the Pickaxe traits shown above.
