How to Get All Stars for Sandslash

How to Take Sandslash 1 Star Photo

Caption Name Nice and calm

Sandslash Standing Still

Near the beginning of the Snowfields (Night) course, you can find a Sandslash partially hidden on top of some boulders to the left of the path. Toss an Illumina Orb at the Sandslash to make it pop out of the ground and take a photo of it before it starts to dig down into the snow.

Caption Name Digging hard!

Sandslash Digging Down

Near the beginning of Snowfields (Night), you can find a partially hidden Sandslash atop a boulder to the left of the path. Toss a Fluffruit or an Illumina Orb at it to make it jump out of the snow. Wait until Sandlash starts digging down and take a photo before it disappears underground.

How to Take Sandslash 3 Star Photo

Caption Name A bit unusual!

Sandslash Digging Down

To take a 3 Star photo of Sandslash you need to take a photo as it jumps in the air and digs underground. The best area to take this photo is in the first alternate route through the blizzard in Snowfields (Day) since you can get close to one Sandslash that will repeatedly dig underground each time you scan. Because the Sandslash moves rather fast, it is recommended to use Burst Mode for this photo.

How to Take Sandslash 4 Star Photo

Caption Name Happy vibes

Happy Sandslash

After taking the first alternate route in Snowfields (Day) at Research Level 3, you can find a Sandslash to the right of the path that will repeatedly reveal itself each time you scan before digging itself back underground. Toss an Illumina Orb at the spot the Sandslash is under to make it jump out of the snow and smile at you. Quickly take a photo as the Sandslash is smiling.

For the 4 star photo, the sandslash you need to photograph is on the left of the path, not the right. Follow all the same steps in this article but throw the illumina orb between the 2nd and 3rd tree on the left and take a picture once sandslash is standing up and smiling. If you can’t find it you can use the scanner and it will show a ??? where the sandslash is or it will jump out of the ground and go right back in where you need to throw an illumina orb.

I wasn't able to get the 4* method listed here to work, but found an alternate source: if you get Sandslash to appear in the cave as described on the main Snowfields (Day) page (i.e., orb and then feed the last Sandslash on the alternate path), and feed it a fluffruit there, it'll make a happy pose after eating that counts as a 4* photo as well. (This might not be worth as many points as the other method, tbf, but it *can* still be diamond—my own photo got a score of 4,008, for instance.)
