This is a guide to beating Great Ape Vegeta, one of the main enemies in the Saiyan Arc Episode Battles of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. Learn the best strategies to use against Great Ape Vegeta and all the moves can use to beat him.
How to Beat Great Ape Vegeta
Utilize Sparking Mode
Sparking Mode allows you to unleash an unlimited amount of rush attacks while sparking mode is up. While this is not a great strategy to use against real players, the AI of the game in episode battles are very susceptible to this strategy.
Keep Your Distance and Charge Your Ki
To easily reach Sparking mode, dash away from Vegeta and charge your ki. Charing your Ki to the max and charging it further will allow you to reach sparking mode. Once you reach this state, it's time to unleash your attacks on the unwary ape.
Use Vanishing Strikes
Another strategy you can use (and can especially be used if you don't want to rely on Sparking Mode) are vanishing strikes. Great Ape Vegeta doesn't get stunned by rush attacks so attacking him headfront will cause him to counter with his own grab attack that will take away around 40% of a single health bar.
To avoid getting grabbed, use the dodge button (R1 by default on the dualsense gamepad) while pressing forward. This will teleport your character behing Vegeta which can cause his grab to miss. Repeatedly use this to unleash combo strings until you beat the great ape.
Sidestep Vegeta's Blast Attacks
When Vegeta uses his blast attacks, do not panic! Use your dodge button (x on the dual sense controller) and avoid it by moving sideways. This will also give you a huge window of opportunity to charge your ki or even rush in for an attack!
Equip Ability Items
Ability items are items that you can equip to your active character to bolster their stats.
Make sure to equip the ability item that suits your playstyle so if you wish to use ki blasts then equip items that enhances the strength of such attacks or if you utilize sparking mode then items that strengthen your character while in sparking mode will definitely reduce this battle's difficulty significantly.

Great Ape Vegeta is the transformation that Vegeta's Z-scouter form can use during the early saiyan arc of Dragon Ball Z. It's the first giant-sized enemy that you'll face in the game's episode battles which can make it more challenging than the other fighters you can encounter in the beginning of the game.
