Chrono Cross Remaster: Radical Dreamers

Leveling System - How to Level Up

Chrono Cross Remaster: Radical Dreamers Edition features a unique character leveling method as opposed to other standard JRPGS. Read on to know how to level up your characters, find a list of star giving bosses, and learn other methods to strengthen your characters!

How to Level Up in Chrono Cross

Defeat Star-Bearing Enemies for Big Boosts

Stars Increased

Your characters receive stat boosts primarily by defeating bosses and getting star levels. In order to start gaining big stat boosts for your characters, you'll have to defeat bosses first, which can be encountered by progressing the main storyline and completing optional sidequests.

Note that all characters receive a star level whether they were in your current party or not unless they have fainted in battle.

Defeat Regular Enemies after Obtaining a Star for Smaller Boosts

Stat Increase

In Chrono Cross, you do not gain experience points from defeating enemies. Instead, your current party will receive small stat boosts from defeating enemies following a boss fight. Make sure to fight a few enemies after you've defeated a boss and received a star in order to receive these small stat boosts. The number varies, but on average your current party will continue receiving mini stat boosts for the 5 battles with regular enemies that follow every boss fight.

Note that, unlike big stat boosts received from boss fights, these smaller stat boosts only go to your current party.

No Need for Grinding

Thanks to the star system, the way you level up in Chrono Cross means that your entire roster of characters levels up at approximately the same rate. This means that if you want to change up your party (or just try out a new character), you can easily do so without worrying that they'll be too weak in battle.

How to Strengthen Characters

Equip New Weapons

Weapons are your main damage source for the majority of your characters. They directly increase your character's damage output and even critical chances and much more. Make sure to also take a look into your weapons before venturing to new areas!

Switch Up Accessories

Accessories are the most flexible aspect of making your character generally stronger. Some accessories can alleviate a character's slow stamina recovery to avoid dead turns or downright increase your critical chance for more damage!
